Recently there was a crusade on national TV about VIP CULTURE. It is indeed very interesting to see how within few seconds the one who comes to beg votes becomes VIP while the commoners are pushed by arrogant servants, escorting VIP to face humiliation on roads.

This  tragedy of commoners in INDIA will not come to an end. Once Upon in ancient times FAHIYAN the CHINESE VISITOR to patna-bernkuti (now Patliaputra) happened to see Chanakya – THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE THEN bharat varsh living in a mud hut…..FAHIYAN asked Chanakya why did he prefer staying in a mud hut when he was the PM of a country. Quick came the reply from CHANKYA-

In a country where a king lives in palaces -the praja lives in huts. However, in a country where a king lives in a hut -the praja lives in palaces.

WE ALL KNOW ABOUT PRESENT DAY maharajas & their servants which the British had produced as prototypes for us to rule the commoners……

Nirbhaya’s friend, who was with her on the fateful night, calls ‘India’s Daughter’ a fake film i.indiaopines.com/deepti/nirbhayas-friend-who-was-with-her-on-the-fateful-night-calls-indias-daughter-a-fake-film/

While the British filmmaker Leslee Udwin claims that her documentary on the horrific Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case, ‘India’s Daughter’, accurately depicts what happened on the night of December 16, 2012, the sole witness to the barbaric assault on the 23-year-old woman called the film “fake”.

Backing the Central government’s decision to ban ‘India’s Daughter’ featuring the interview of one of the convicts, Mukesh Singh who blames girls for rape and not men, Nirbhaya’s friend Avanindra Pandey speaking exclusively to IBNLive accused Leslee Udwin of insensitively handling the issue.

“The documentary is unbalanced as the victim’s viewpoint is missing. The facts are hidden and the content is fake. Only Jyoti and I know what happened on that night and the documentary is far from truth,” says Avanindra Pandey who fought with the rapists and murderers to save her friend but was overpowered and beaten up brutally.

“The documentary is unbalanced as the victim’s viewpoint is missing. The facts are hidden and the content is fake,” says Avanindra Pandey.

Backing his claim, Pandey said he had never heard the name of tutor Satendra, who features in the documentary. “Moreover, how does he know which movie I wanted to watch on that night,” asks Pandey.

The man who appears as the tutor of the victim in the documentary said, “Avanindra Pandey wanted to watch an action film while Jyoti wanted to watch ‘Life Of Pi’.”

The interview of the death row convict created a massive public uproar and controversy after it was made public in which he held girls more responsible than boys for rape. Pandey says, “A controversy was created unnecessarily and was sensationalised. The documentary made fun of emotions and questioned the law and order situation in our country.”

Pandey adds that even though things slipped out of the government’s hand, it took timely action. “The documentary has dented country’s image and questioned law and order situation. The documentary showed that any individual can enter the Central Jail of our country and can interview a criminal,” Pandey says.

When asked whether he was approached to be part of the documentary, he replied in positive. “I was approached by many people and it started one and a half years ago, in 2013. I did not want to be part of it as I was not convinced by its motive. Also, I was not mentally prepared and had health issues as well,” Pandey says.

He also appeals that there should be a censor board for documentaries as well.

On Women’s Day, Read the Suicide Note of a Man i.indiaopines.com/deepti/on-womens-day-read-the-suicide-note-of-a-man/

submitted 3 years ago by in Social

the entire country is rejoicing and celebrating Women’s Day, an old mother is crying inconsolably in Jhansi. Her son, Avadhesh Yadav committed suicide on February 25, 2015 because of a “woman”. This day has no meaning for her as she is confused of the word that means “Women Empowerment”. Laws that have been made to protect women, abuse of same became the reason for her son’s death.

Here are excerpts from suicide note left by Avadhesh Yadav:

My name is Avadhesh Yadav and I work in a private bank. I got married to Unnati Yadav on December 7, 2012. Within a week of marriage, she started pestering my family by asking divorce for no reason. We ignored. She never allowed me to come close to her for 2-3 months after the marriage. My father advised that with time everything will be fine. But it got only worse. She started misbehaving with my parents, hurling abuses at them. When we complained about this to her family, they gave excuses of some “external influence” on her and they would get her treated. She now started going almost every day at her home and threatened us of a dowry case if we said anything.

On Women's Day, read the suicide note of a man

Avadhesh Yadav sacrificed his life to save his family from further humiliation.

In September 2013, she left my home. In December, my father was getting retired and he wished that his daughter-in-law should be part of this program. We signed a mutual agreement where she accepted her wrongdoings and promised to be cordial with the family and I promised to do everything possible to take good care of her. She came back only to harass us even more. She demanded that I leave my parents. Threats of dowry and domestic violence cases increased. Things came to a point where she left my home again in July 2014 with her entire belongings.

On advice of lawyers, we filed a case of restitution of conjugal rights, requesting her to come back. Three months after that in September, she filed a false dowry and domestic violence case (498A) on me, my mother, father, elder brother and his wife. We got bail. Her brother told me she wants to come back.

I refused saying now this was not possible and suggested that we get separated amicably. He refused and threatened me of false cases of molestation, rape on my father and brother and, acid attack on me and getting me killed. Unnati eventually filed a case of molestation in January on my father and brother and they were arrested. I don’t know what will this step of mine lead to but I want to save my family from all this humiliation. After I go, they would probably be in peace. I also wish to ask our law makers, how they can make laws that give so much credence to mere words of a woman that whatever the other person is saying has no relevance. Shouldn’t the other side be heard too? My father and brother were picked up by police on her statement alone without any evidence.

My family that never even saw a police station has to now do the rounds just because of me. Without any evidence we have been labelled Criminals. Nothing that Unnati wrote about dowry or violence is true. Authorities can investigate the veracity of her statements. They claim to have spent Rs 20 lakh on the wedding; can someone ask them where did they get so much money from? They are demanding that we transfer my father’s house in her name. A person who is making such demands before even living with me, what will she do later? I do not want to see my family in pain. I could think of no other way than this to save my family. Please help my family get out of this problem.

Mummy, Papa, forgive me please and take care of yourself. Please do not cry as tears in your eyes would trouble me even more. MY LAST WISH – PLEASE LEAVE MY FAMILY MEMBERS.

Avadhesh Yadav

A case of abetment to suicide has been registered against Avadhesh’s wife and her brother. Had this been a married woman, this death would have been called “Dowry Death.” Avadhesh’s death would not be called “Reverse Dowry” death.

Had this been a married woman, leaving a three page suicide note, it would have made national headlines. This story got published in a paper or two.

Had this been a married woman, entire family of husband would have been thrown in jail, even if there was no suicide note. In this case, no one has been arrested yet. This is not just Avadhesh’s story. Several men are committing suicide because of false accusations.

As a social activist, I get calls from Men everyday with almost similar tales to share – refusal to any kind of physical contact by wife after marriage, threats of self harm on requests of physical intimacy, pressure of separation from parents, no participation in any household chores, treating in-laws like servants with both physical as well as mental abuse and whenever there is any argument or complaint over this behaviour, threats of a dowry case and sending every family member behind bars. One case was so horrible, that this man’s wife fought daily with him and dialled 100 blaming him instead. There was police at his home every day. Even though the police realized that the man was not at mistake, they could do little to help the man and absolutely nothing against the woman!

There is little a man can do if in an abusive relationship apart from filing divorce. And divorce mostly comes with even bigger abuse – false cases of dowry and domestic violence. Where not only you but your entire family is made to suffer!

Trauma of families trapped in false cases doesn’t end ever. Though this is a criminal provision, place of alleged “crime” makes absolutely no difference. A dowry case is usually filed by women in their own home town even though the case is state vs husband and his family. This basically means husband and his entire family travels to a different city/state for cases even if they are innocent. It takes huge toll on mind of a person when he sees his entire family suffering because of him.

Though Avadhesh hanged himself on February 25, he must have been dying inside since long. How would a man feel, if his old paralytic father is accused of molesting his own daughter-in-law? A young life snapped because of a system that doesn’t bother to verify claims made if it is by a “woman.”

In most 498A cases, either you pay huge money to the girl to settle the case or you fight in the court to prove your innocence for years and years. The latest trend is inclusion of false molestation/rape charges on father and brothers of the husband to ensure arrest of everyone and put tremendous pressure.

Being labelled a criminal when you have done no crime is painful. Being labelled a rapist when you have not done it is rape of one’s soul. Seeing your family suffer every hour because of you is nothing short of a death. I receive mails from many men who are facing false cases of either dowry or rape or molestation that they feel like committing suicide. What they don’t know is, even after their death, the charges on their family members remain. They still have to fight unless the case is quashed.

As a woman, this women’s day I beg to ask my fellow women – Is this why we demanded stringent laws? Is this what we mean by women empowerment that a woman can ruin anyone’s life if she wants? Isn’t a mother-in-law tortured by her daughter-in-law a woman? Would we ever get rid of crime against women if women start using laws as weapons and our courts get choked with false cases? Is it empowerment that a woman plays gender card and settle scores with whosoever she wants? False cases of crime against women should concern women rights activists because it hurts their cause the most. False cases are no less a crime against actual victims of these crimes. “If cry of wolf is made too often, assistance might not come when actual wolf appears.”

As a woman, this women’s day, I also request media to at least make an effort to know the other side of the story, know the truth before reporting it. First a false case and then your name splashed all over media in that case does irreparable damage to a person. Report acquittal with as much fervour as you report an accusation!

10 Reasons Why You Should Not Eat Cow!

submitted 3 years ago by in Social
1 comment.
Question Details

Now that all the PETA Endorsers are angry about Beef Ban in Maharashtra. Here, let me remind them what PETA has to say about Eating Cow:

Top 10 Reasons Not to Eat Cows

1. Help Your Health by Leaving Cows Alone

Eating beef products, which are loaded with artery-clogging cholesterol and saturated fat, is a good way to increase both your waistline and your chances of developing impotence and diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and asthma. Research has shown that vegetarians are 50 percent less likely to develop heart disease than are meat-eaters, and they have 40 percent of the cancer rate of meat-eaters.

Plus, meat-eaters are nine times more likely to be obese than vegans are. Every time you eat animal-derived products, you’re also ingesting bacteria, antibiotics, dioxins, hormones, and a host of other substances, some toxic, that can accumulate in your body and remain there for years. Learn more about how consuming animal products affects your health.

2. Cows Are Too Nice to Eat

Cows are gentle, social animals. Each cow has the ability to recognize more than 100 other cows, and they form close friendships with members of their herd. Researchers report that cows grieve when their friends or family members die. Learn more about cows’ personalities and some of their amazing feats.

3. Even Cowboys Don’t Eat Cows Anymore

Howard Lyman was a fourth-generation cattle rancher who became vegan after learning about the effects of factory farming—he now tours the country promoting a vegetarian diet. Other tough guys who refuse to eat animals include hip-hop legends Andre 3000 and Mos Def, actors Tobey Maguire and Joaquin Phoenix, NFL superstar Ricky Williams, and Olympian Carl Lewis.

4. Hormones: It’s What’s for Dinner

To make cows grow at an unnaturally fast rate, the cattle industry implants them with pellets full of hormones. While low levels of naturally occurring hormones are found in various foods, many scientists are concerned that the artificial hormones injected into cows cause health problems in people who eat them. The Los Angeles Times reports that confidential industry reports have found extremely high levels of estradiol, “a potent cancer-causing and gene-damaging estrogen,” in meat products from cows treated with the hormone. According to the Times, “[T]he amount of estradiol in two hamburgers eaten in one day by an 8-year-old boy could increase his total hormone levels by as much as 10% ….”

5. Torture 101

Cows have their horns sliced off; they are branded, which causes excruciating third-degree burns; and males are castrated. This is all done without any painkillers. They are injected full of hormones and confined to overcrowded, dusty feedlots for months. Then they are shipped without food or water to the slaughterhouse, where a metal rod is shot through their brains and they are hung upside-down and have their throats slit. Because line speeds are so fast, many of the animals are still conscious throughout the process.Learn more about cows in factory farms and slaughterhouses.

6. Stealing Food From the Poor

It is inefficient to grow grains and other feed crops for animals—only a fraction of what we feed them is actually turned into flesh that humans can eat. The vast majority is used by the animal to live and grow. The highly respected Worldwatch Institute says, “In a world where an estimated one in every six people goes hungry each day, the politics of meat consumption are increasingly heated, since meat production is an inefficient use of grain—the grain is used more efficiently when consumed directly by humans. Continued growth in meat output is dependent on feeding grain to animals, creating competition for grain between affluent meat-eaters and the world’s poor.”

7. Amazing Escapes

Millions of cows are killed in slaughterhouses each year in the United States. The few who manage to escape pull off some amazing feats. A cow named Emily got away from a Massachusetts slaughterhouse, leapt over a 5-foot gate, and survived for several weeks in the woods during the New England winter before she was rescued. A pregnant cow named Suzie was being loaded onto a freighter when she ran back down the gangplank, leapt into the river, and swam across. She eluded capture before being rescued by PETA and taken to a sanctuary. And Molly, a cow from Montana, recently escaped, crossing the Missouri River before finally being caught. While all three of these cows touched their communities’ hearts so much that they were released to sanctuaries, the millions of nameless cows killed by the meat industry each year aren’t so lucky.

8. Filthy Air, Toxic Water

Factory farms and feedlots produce a staggering amount of feces that pollutes both the water and the air. Stored in massive lagoons, the manure seeps into nearby rivers and streams, killing fish and ruining the quality of the water. The feces also emit harmful chemicals and microorganisms into the air. Numerous studies and governmental reports have shown higher rates of miscarriages, respiratory problems, and neurological diseases among people who live near factory farms.

9. It’s Mad to Eat Meat

Mad cow disease is already in the United States, and the U.S. government is not following World Health Organization recommendations for ensuring that it doesn’t spread. While Japan and all Europe countries have banned the feeding of animal protein to farmed animals, the practice continues across the board in the U.S. meat industry, which is just begging for a “mad chicken,” a “mad pig,” or some other variant of the disease in the U.S. meat supply. Because it takes years for the disease to show up in humans, there’s no way of knowing how many Americans have already been infected.

Amazingly, the U.S. government still refuses to take the problem seriously. In 2005, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) tested less than 1 percent of U.S. cows for the disease. Unbelievably, even though the third case of mad cow disease in the United States was found in 2006, the USDA announced that it is scaling back this testing.

10. It’s Easy to Be Kind

Leaving cows and other animals off your plate is easier than ever. You can now get tasty veggie burgers at numerous restaurants, including Burger King, Johnny Rockets, and Ruby Tuesday. Check out our favorite beef substitutes, all of which are delicious and cholesterol- and cruelty-free.

November 2013 . I was just 12 years old , yet you must not be surprised at me sinking into a magazine like Tehelka . I surely wasn’t a CBI officer at the age of twelve so I do not regret not having researched the history of the magazine , nor the geography of either it’s founder or editors . Seriously , who does that anyways ? I was a passionate reader , I even contributed a few times to the magazine . I thought they were guys who made a lot of sense and logic . I was indeed impress , I must confess .  And tadda …..”Mr.Tejpal arrested over sexual harassment of one of his employes in the lift at Think Fest “

September 2013 . He was worshipped as the untainted god-men . An empire , he owned . The count of his followers was certainly much more than the population of many European nations . Little had anybody thought, their god could ever do something bad . They even called him ‘Bapu’ , the only second person to be called so , after the father of the nation .And tadda …….”Asaram accused of sexually assaulting a minor”

  1.  BrainWiz Model United Nations , I was at (11th and 12th October 2014) . I was told the Secretary General is an internationally renowned environmentalist . He has been charing IPCC for last 11 years . He is on PM’s very exclusive panel on climate change . We heard his opening address at the distance of hardly 10 metres .  Again , I was very much fascinated by the nobel utopian vision of his , he even talked a little about his meeting of IPCC early 2015 , the one he was never going to attend . If this was also no much , it was during his tenure as the chief that IPCC was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. Pachuri ji had enough to make all ’73 year old chaps’ jealous even an year ago .   And tadda …… “Mr. R K Pachuri is accused of sexual harassment charges by his 29-year old female colleague”

And yes how do I forget .

“Boys are boys , they do make mistakes when they step out .” (When commenting on rape )

“Homosexuality is a disease , come to my Ashram I will cure you .”

“Every  child is born a muslim , his parents and society converts him to other relgions”

“Rape cases are on a rise because men and women interact with each other freely.” (CM WB)

“Marry off girls early , prevent rapes”

–          Great men and women of our country .

I do not know what new twists and turns  will come in either of these three cases , the second I have finished this letter , yet this is certain ‘the damage has been done.’ Do not worry , I do not advocate for free , for either of these three great men . Its little about these cases on record , much truth remains unknown , unreported.

Call me an impractical idealist or may be a fool , but trust me sir and ma’am “this hurts!” There is so much to learn and absorb in this world , I was told . They said we have a plethora of great men and women in our country , you must get inspired from them . They are so perfectionistic , you are lucky enough to be born in their age .

From Tehelka to IPCC , Asharam to SP chief’s ridiculous comments , there are a lot of reasons to make any young Indian sad . And we beat drums of being the youngest nation on this planet . At the debates of Freedom of Expression and Free Speech , ‘culture and ethics’ are the best guns of ours . Yet sir , my heart wanders lonely if the vastu of Asharam’s ashram wasn’t just the perfect to dodge the police around , or had Pachuri not been to Triputi Balaji for just the exact number of ‘Indian’ times ? I really do not know what was and is , wrong with our idealistic men and women .

Judging who is the bad-man of the scene and announcing anybody guilty is not my job , certainly not yours too . We are rather Aam Aadmis (or is it being political these days , hope these people are yet immune to dark) . Investigations will take their own course , it will soon be clear If the allegations were true or false .

But this much is for sure , Pachuri’s glorious chairmanship , Tejpal’s courageous journalism and Asharam’s godman-ship have all been washed . Not because they were out in public , but because something like this happened. If somebody having a as public career as these people can do a thing as tragic as a sexual molestation  , leave the thought of the nation’s youth sparing a lonely girl mid-night .

It’s rather disturbing , we cannot save the employees of a University Vice Chancellor , do you expect the lakhs of women employees to escape sexual harassments, everyday , every-shift . Mind it , not every allegation of sexual harassment concerns rape , even meek touching at private spots is very much eligible a complaint . With half of the women actually ignoring these dubious gestures , even a fraction isn’t reported . With such a stage , where none is seemingly spared , the levels of our women being safe from being subject to the beast-ness of wild  dogs in higher positions , is critically low.

What are we doing to our country ?

And aren’t these headlines enough to hit your sense hard , our politicians and self-proclaimed representatives keep entertaining us regularly. (ultimately disappointing !) With their logics at the best and knowledge at even better , its sad knowing our media channels have nothing more than some stupid statements to air.

Our children do not grow up listening to the tales of extra-ordinary hypothetical bravery, neither are they interested in them anymore (nor should they be). They do not watch Ramayana or Mahabharatha on idiot box which has thousands other things to chose from.

Thanks for giving us an opportunity to be born in an age which comes rarely in the history , an age where  we have stories of great men and women on our tables , “The Pachuri Panchtantra” or “The Asaram Amarkatha” and many more editions to come . (sadly ,but truly hopefully)

Thanks for all the love , affection and of course most importantly “inspiration” which is not easily available on OLX these days . We are indeed debited by your utopian vision . We need your blessings ma’am and sir .

Thank you so much .

Yours lovingly ,

A 14 year old . Akshat Tyagi

I’d Rather be a Muslim in India Than in Any Other ‘Muslim’ Country

submitted 3 years ago by in Religion

Question Details

This story was shared by Aashiya Begum in Indiatimes Facebook page

I am a girl who was born and brought up in a Muslim family in India. And in all the 21 years of my life, I have never once felt harassed by or discriminated against my religious counterparts. In fact the only trouble I ever had was being repeatedly asked questions like “Why do you not fast/ wear a veil?” by Hindus and Muslims alike.

Every single time I happen to read news articles (like a few I have mentioned below) stating what is happening in the Muslim world, I leave a huge sigh of relief and feel grateful that I was born in India and no place else.
I do not wear the Hijab, I do not pray five times a day and I celebrate Holi and Diwali with the same enthusiasm as Eid and Bakri Eid.

In India, I have no fear; I have the freedom to choose what I wish to follow and what I don’t. I am not afraid of being killed for seeking education, I do not get stigmatized for not wearing the Hijab, I am free to drive alone without the fear of being lashed and my career is not confined to only a few gender segregated job opportunities.

To sum it up, “I’d rather be a Muslim in India than in any other ‘Muslim’ country.”

Power Politics and Personal Purity

submitted 3 years ago by in Politics
Start a discussion.
Question Details

It is a fact that the main driving force for most of the political leaders is the quest for power  But there are exceptions such as Gandhiji, Nelson Mandela, Jayaprakash Narayan, and Martin Luther King  who led political movements not for seeking power for themselves but for greater political causes. In a democracy, since the people have the prerogative to elect the persons to power, the leaders have to be constantly in touch with the people and cannot afford to detach themselves from power.

If a leader is averse to political power just because he believes power makes one corrupt, he should not be in politics. If the adage, ‘Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely’ is true  then there can never be power with absolute purity . So if you want to be absolutely pure, you must stand alone and keep away from power politics.

But if you really seek to do anything positive and good for people or to achieve something, then you must choose power and not to think of purity.  When once you are in power, you can not remain absolutely clean, as some mud will always be thrown at you and some of it will stick. And to get it cleaned is a really tough task.

Question Details

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January this year launched a small deposit scheme for the girl child, as part of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign. This scheme is specially designed for girls’ higher education or marriage needs.

Opening of account: The account may be opened by the guardian in the name of a girl child till she attains the age of ten years. Only one account is allowed per girl child. Parents can open this account for a maximum of two children. In case of twins or triplets, this facility will be extended to the third child. Account can be opened in post offices or authorized bank branches.

Age: The maximum age limit of the girl child for opening this account is 10 years. This year, a one-year relaxation has also been given.

Interest rate: The government will every year declare the interest rate of the scheme. For 2014-15, the government would be paying 9.1 per cent interest.

Transferability: The account may be transferred anywhere in India if the girl child in whose name the account stands shifts to a place other than the city or locality where the account stands.

Deposits: The account may be opened with an initial deposit of Rs 1,000 and thereafter any amount in multiple of Rs 100 can be deposited. The minimum deposit for a financial year is Rs 1,000 and maximum Rs 1.5 lakh. Deposits in an account may be made till completion of fourteen years, from the date of opening of the account.

Penalty: An account where minimum amount has not been deposited in a particular year will attract a fine of Rs 50 per year.

Operation of account: The account will be opened and operated by the guardian of a girl child till the girl child, in whose name the account has been opened, attains the age of 10 years. On attaining age of 10 years, the girl child may herself operate the account.

Maturity: The account shall mature on completion of 21 years from the date of opening of the account or the date of marriage of the girl child, whichever is earlier.

Withdrawal: After the girl child attains the age of 18 years, 50 per cent of the money can be withdrawn for the higher studies.

Taxation: Investments under Sukanya Samriddhi give you tax benefit under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act. Suresh Sadagopan, the founder of Ladder 7 Financial Advisories, said there is a need for more clarity about the tax treatment for Sukanya Samriddhi scheme on different issues like whether the interest income or maturity proceeds would be taxable and how it will be taxed in the hands of the daughter.

Aamir Khan Opines on AIB Roast, Calls It An Violent Act!

Question Details

Always known to be a man who speaks his mind, and being assertive about every aspect of his life, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan had a thing or two to say about the very controversial AIB Knockout Roast starring Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, among others.

At yesterday’s Youth for Governance 2015 against corruption event, he was asked by a member of the press about his take on the extremely popular, yet severely criticised show that was promoted on Youtube.

“I was deeply affected by that. I completely believe in the freedom of speech. But we have to understand that we all have a certain responsibility,” he said in response.

“There was a lot of violence in that event. Violence need not be just physical, it can be verbal, it can be emotional. I am not impressed with “gaalis”, that age has long gone. I am not longer 14, that I will laugh at someone giving a “gaali”. I am not impressed by bad language,” he continued.

Raising concerns over increasing corruption in the country, Aamir Khan has joined My Right, My Responsibility themed Youth for Governance 2015.

What’s So ‘Vulgar’ About The AIB Roast?

By Kanika Katyal:

“At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world was awake India shut her eyes to life and freedom. A moment came, not rare in history, when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, lost utterance.” Pandit Nehru just shuddered in his grave.

AIB roast controversy

I am referring to the infamous FIR against a team of artists – comedians, and also citizens of India. The very fact that #AIBNationalShame and #WeStandByAIBKnockout have been top trends on Twitter in India speaks volumes about how the threat to freedom of speech and expression is one of our most crucial battles.

Before stating my opinion on the debate, let’s get our basics right. First things first, the genre of insult comedy is self-explanatory – it’s humour derived from insulting another person. The genre has been quite popular internationally for decades now, started as early as 1949 by The Friars Club. So, when the All India Bakchod organized the AIB Knockout in January featuring Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh with Karan Johar as the roastmaster, the first question which came to my mind was – “are we there yet?”.

I thought we were. We were finally “saying in public what we say in parties”, as Rohan Joshi said on the show. They were not talking about something ‘alien’ or out-of-the-box. But the breakthrough can be seen in their attempt to initiate a dialogue in public on issues that we have conveniently confined to our private comfort zones. Their sword was humour, the kind we indulge in with our friends. Stand up comedy is a form of resistance. Even when some of the jokes were directed towards homosexuals, in a way they were a step towards addressing the issue of homophobia. That was their way of entering into conversation. So I see it as bringing a self-actualization principle, and of us as rising to a new conscience.

The argument is not about acquiring a feigned sense of modernity by aping something from the “western culture”. It was “different” from the usual run-off-the-mill comedy, and refreshing. Judging it within the framework of a traditional comedy is completely missing the point.

I think the medium and the demographic placement of the artists also needs to be looked at, the AIB is a YouTube channel, entitled to their opinion. There is a certain kind of creative freedom and freedom of expression that the internet not only entails but also necessitates. One cannot ignore the operative mechanism which grants one form of entertainment a primetime slot on television, while ‘the other’ resort to more permissive and liberal platforms such as the web. Usually, not essentially, it is true that thoughts which do not cohere with the dominant ideology harbour themselves on the internet. Away from state-censorship and corporate pressure, the internet becomes the platform for the audience to enjoy those pockets of entertainment.

According to a global public opinion poll conducted by the BBC World Service in 2010, majority of the users, including the Indian users, strongly agreed that the Internet had brought them more freedom, they saw it as a fundamental right, and it gave them the space to express their opinion. So, it is not as if people are repressed and that’s why they avail entertainment on the internet. That is not the principle at work here. On the contrary, it is the social filtering and moral policing, which is the most regressive and redundant form of control as manifested through the FIR.

If one looks at the entertainment presented to us in prime time TV, the hypocrisy of the system is exposed. How about our very own home-grown desi Russel Peters, our most celebrated and loved show Comedy Nights With Kapil. Isn’t the humour on the show misogynistic, sexist, racist, homophobic and insensitive to gender ? But we laugh out loud!

The dispute is really the fact that the state cannot be selective about such actions. Threat to freedom of expression is the most disgraceful thing to be happening in the world’s largest democracy. The threat to creative freedom is perhaps the worst fear of an artist.

The humour on the AIB Knockout was sharp. Could it have been done in a “less offensive” manner? Maybe. Maybe not. I’m not advocating “their brand of humour”, but intent and context are two crucial aspects to be kept in mind when one discourses upon what is it that constitutes the funny. Say they were bad, scorn them. But by maintaining silence on the charges against them, you are siding with the oppressor and making them powerful.

Remember that the operative principle here is : “I do not find your joke funny, but I will defend to death your right to crack it

A Letter To Zindagi Channel, From A Disgruntled Fan!

submitted 3 years ago by in TV Serials
Start a discussion.
Question Details

Dear Zee Entertainment Enterprises,

When the Zindagi channel was launched, I was not very enthusiastic. I had enough of indigenous entertainment which offered nothing beyond saas-bahuclashes, sibling rivalry, multiple marriages, scripted ‘reality’ shows and crass comedy. I was a loyal audience of English shows and sitcoms on television, because I found much less predictable melodrama there.

However, on hearing my friends appreciate Zindagi Gulzar Hai, I tuned in to it one fine day and was impressed, if not spellbound. Although the story was a regular ‘rich chauvinist boy meets middle class headstrong girl and they live happily ever after’ tale, it was much unlike what Indian entertainment offers. It was blatant, prompt and just, without any unnecessary ensembles which take the pleasure out of a daily soap; such as meaningless sidetracks, high voltage background music and distasteful stereotypes. What attracted me the most was that the series was wrapped up in less than 30 episodes, while in Indian entertainment, it takes 30 episodes for the hero and heroine to come face to face for the first time, 50 to realize they are in love, 200 to get married, 400 to consummate and another 400 to finally start a family, wherein the problems arising out of their marriage and relationships take another 200 episodes to get solved, finally dragging a soap to its 1000th episode, which is triumphantly celebrated much to the torture of the audience. Still, these Indian shows run for 5-6 years each, because the audience barely has an access to any substitute for entertainment.

zindagi channel

Zindagi not only brought the urban, free thinking, educated, upper middle classes of the Indian metropolitan cities back to the national television and local entertainment by catering to their intellectual and spiritual stimulation, but also paved the way for a renaissance in Indian entertainment as well. Shows here began to ponder about themes with finite content and alternate plots.

Zindagi Gulzar Hai met its logical end while many other shows such as Mere Qatil Mere Dildar, Aunn Zara and Noorpur ki Rani kept its relic of substance and no unnecessary futility going.

However, these shows kept ending one after another and a new stream of shows followed, which included Maat, Madiha Maliha and Aaina Dulhan Ka. There was something starkly uncanny about these series. In all these, the women portrayed as righteous are the docile ones who do not have dreams or for that matter, any identity of their own, neither are they interested in building one, while the ones who are ambitious, demand economic, sexual or social liberation and personal space, are invariably portrayed as evil. The men in the lives of these women are mere puppets who act as per the wishes of their wives.

It was there that Zindagi failed, making it a shadow of the trademark Indian formulae of stereotyping the women not wearing a ‘chastity belt’ and not having the ‘nineteenth century sense of morality’ as the vamps, while glorifying the ‘doormat’ like behaviour towards women.

Maybe towards the end in all these serials, women take to working or become self sufficient, but that is only an ambivalent empowerment as the ‘virtuous’women, who considered putting up with all the tortures they were subjected to as their duty, and never protested, chose to build an identity for themselves because they barely had any option for survival and would not have ever chosen to do so, if situations were according to their convenience.

Besides, I am also miffed with the typecasting and watching the same actors in similar roles in every series.

It should be noted that situations and mindsets of Indian urban and educated viewers has also undergone considerable changes in the recent years. Family, relationships, marriage, parenthood, all these definitely form an important part of entertainment but offbeat shows or the hint of themes like career, social issues, crime such as the story of Sandhya’s journey from a housewife to an IPS officer; Anjali’s struggle to gain paternal acceptance by conquering the Everest; Samyukta’s hardships in becoming a mechanical engineer; too have been loved by Indian audiences and have emerged as decent TRP mongers.

Before the ‘Ekta Kapoor’ syndrome, Indian television had a considerable number of shows which had non-filial content and professional themes, such as Sanjivani, Mahayagya, Office Office etc., which is being revived through shows like Airlines, Everest, Private Investigator, 24 etc., accordingly if Zindagiaspires to woo the changing demands of the Indian audiences, it has to move beyond kitchen politics, class distinctions and dramas which revolve around the four walls of the household with similar and predictable stories.

Kapoor also ushered in the era of dominance of women on screen, with the script pivoting around the heroine. The worst outcome of a patriarchal mode of entertainment that has been made a feature of the content on television is the misrepresentation or underrepresentation of men as the eternal oppressor and as the provider. However, Indian television is gradually overcoming this forced misandry. Shows which are pivoted around men, with considerable emphasis on women such as Devon ke Dev-Mahadev, Maharana Pratap, Jamai Raja and Saraswatichandra have found acceptance from the audience. Zindagi is currently giving Indian viewers the opinion as if every man in Pakistan is gullible and easy to be manipulated against the women in their lives or is instrumental of fortifying patriarchal norms of the society himself, which can never be true. Of course every society has men who are believers in patriarchy but all men are not alike and generalizing vices is as sinful as committing it.

Television is the strongest means of representing a community and also of communication. It gives the reflection of a nation-state’s cultural values and psyche. It can also be a powerful means of social change.

I would like to ask a question to the content managers of television on both sides of the border- is TRP so important for you all that it has eclipsed over the sense of responsibility of reforming the society, so much so that instead of changing the outlook of the audiences, you are far more desperate to percolate the already persistent social evils?

Yours Sincerely,
A Disgruntled Fan

Ashoka serial on Colors is a actual historical fictional where it researches well about the past, get into the details well, even links the dots well and give us a historical fictional drama unlike the other serial where the writers are very naive and write the historical plot like a TV serial..

Yea, Chanakya wasn’t there during the time of Ashoka, but the writer gives us a interesting angle of what if he was alive or what if Chanakya was alive during Ashoka (since not much is known about the period, and there are various sources highlighting various things) – The writer has followed the rules of historical fictional well…. The way it has connected the story by taking the Lion is impressive, along with other small things. Besides the writer has read the Arthashtra well. Perhaps, that is why you see how Chanakya tells Helena about the rule of giving punishment.

These minute things and details of actuality was never seen in other historical serial like Jodha Akbar and stuff..One of the episodes even highlighted Chanakya’s guptchar, the secret service team which he kept. Moreover, the show is interesting, the visual effects and the sounds is simply pleasing. After reading several historical fictional books written by some good authors, I’m pleased I can finally see a good historical fictional series on TV!

Banning of Communism

submitted 3 years ago by in Politics
Start a discussion.
Question Details

Communism has demonstrated wide spread violence, torture & killings in all countries where they have ruled. Russia, China & Cambodia are the worst effected countries. The truth has been covered with unique mechanisms of propaganda. Even in academic arena the books while narrating socialism or communism do not site the references from the experiments in socialist countries stated above. In democratic countries democratic parties & non-communist people in general live under threat from communist cadres. The atmosphere for talk, discussion or debate does not exist. This step of banning communism in EU is desirable but the process must be democratic, transparent & peaceful.

An Open Letter to First Lady IPS ashakshat.blogspot.in/2015/02/dear-first-lady-ips-open-letter.html

Article Details

Dear Bedi ji ,

Hope you enjoying your newly begun political career .

I am not good at making Scrap Files neither have I delivered lectures at Harvard and Cambridge , so I do not really think I am worthy of writing you an open letter , advising something , yet you know you have just boosted my confidence with your wonderful TV interviews and speeches . You would better know why .

Firstly ,I am not a Kejriwal-Fan neither do I have any special emotion for BJP . I am rather just a Logical Indian .

Ma’am we have all loved you from the dearness of our hearts . You were indeed a crusader of great inspiration . Let me assure you , joining politics or no-politics will have least impact on our admiration for you . But ma’am there are a few questions seriously disturbing me these days , my heart said I probably trusted the wrong lady as my inspiration so do I sit down to write this . I would be really glad if you could help me answer these –

  1.  1.     Changing opinions is not a problem , but hypocrisy is – Ma’am you were widely criticized for joining BJP , it was said you should have rather opted for Aam Aadmi Party , since you were also a part of Anna Movement . I totally disagree . Joining any party is a matter of personal choice , and yes we all have liberty to decide that . But you know there’s more to it . You were the first lady IPS , we all know , thus we at least expected you to keep up to your ideals . You clearly had said ‘I will never join any party which doesn’t have clean and transparent funding’ , I do not know what has changed . I heard you replying to this on one of the tv channel interviews “All the parties are following the written law right now , so there is no problem” . Jaws up . Ma’am didn’t you know that 1 year back when you said exactly opposite ? Also , I do not know what has changed your views about Public Debate , you say its going to be a ‘tamasha’ to debate with your chief rival , the same could have been said by Sonia Gandhi when you recommended her and Nitin Gadkri to go for a public debate an year ago . Do we think even a little before tweeting views ,  you have a million followers you once reminded us . LOL .  You surely cannot be so hypocrite after all you are the Iron Lady

  1.      2. You are too short of time – Democracy is as much about action as it is about winning the confidence of the people . However , since it been not even a month that you entered politics , its least expected that you will ask for votes based on you past political record . No , ma’am there is a difference between bureaucratic administration , being the DGI of Assam and being the CM of Delhi . I do not undermine your excellent record as police head or UN advisor (kept aside a few ugly memories) , yet you know what pinches me is the fact that you are not ready to speak up , you either are too short of time or may be words . I was really fascinated at your abilities to dodge questions , is that something your 40 years experience taught you , may be .  One thing is for sure , you have to answer many a questions if you are really interested in our votes . We of course are not out of our senses to vote somebody who doesn’t even have time to answer our questions (through media) , no matter what you have done in the past . Ma’am a piece advice , let go your past , tell us about your present plans .

  1.     3.  Do clear the air around – It’s a little confusing . The bold women whom we had known doesn’t seem to have that firmness in her speech today which is what she was known for . From what I have read about you , seen ,I can  very well reassure everybody around , you are not a freaky breed of politicians to appreciate “having 4 children” or the opinion that “wearing jeans leads to rapes” . I know you wont , you will never support such stupid arguments . Really ? then what exactly is the first lady IPS doing in a party which has leaders having such radical and insane views on children and women ! You surely have lost the right to talk about women empowerment and security. You really need to clear the air around . Ooops sorry , you are too short of time , you always say .

  1.     4.  Hey , where did all the positivity disappear !- We hailed Kiran Bedi as one the most optimistic women in the country , we thought you entering politics will surely turn the tide a lot very constructive . #Disappointment ! . Early morning I flipped the pages of my newspaper . Tadda —— the ruling party in centre , issues a half-page big advertisement criticizing what their opponent doesn’t do , or does wrongly . That is not real Kiran Bedi , she surely cannot be . How could a party waste so much of money , crucial time on telling people why others don’t deserve it , rather than explaining what they have to offer , at least not under your leadership . There is surely something wrong with those publishers . Do not worry I am not from ‘updrave gotra’ ,and ya please do not hang a garland around my photo after reading this letter .

  1.      5. Is it self-obsession – Politics is not everyone’s cup of tea , you would have realized these days . No , do not be mistaken that I want you to quit your political career even before it completes a month , you are indeed a very positive chapter in Indian Politics . Yes , you really are , but then what hurts is ‘You do not give others a turn to praise you and your past!’ . I head you say on one of your interviews “I stand for newer kind of politics , I am a proof of change” , “Full marks to BJP leadership for selecting me” , “I am going to change this and that” . Silence . We never expected such things coming from you . Yes politics is about winning trust , but ma’am what you are onto is simple self-appreciation to ridicule all those who had great hopes from you . You have a reputation of being great disciplinarian , but in your interviews and speeches there is little discipline and sense rather they sound a clear echo of authoritarian and dictatorial attitude . That’s what we never expected from our Bedi ji . Yes , you are a very strong women . But being strong doesn’t mean being autocratic , I was left wondering if you were the same Bedi when you threatened a news reporter to go off air ,if not given sufficient time to speak . Whatever the situation was ma’am , this is totally unacceptable .

Don’t you worry these are not 5 Sawal that India Wants to Know within 20 minutes . Take your time to think , even if you do not get enough time to answer me back , do take time pondering over them , I do not want reaction. Would be much happier if  they could serve a real purpose of amending a few things .  Hope your presence turns things really progressive.

With Best Wishes for your political career ahead, may you continue to inspire us .

Yours Truly ,

A common man (But not a Aam Aadmi Volunteer)

Close Surabaya Zoo – Sign the Petition, Animal Lovers!

submitted 3 years ago by in Social
1 comment.
Question Details

Surabaya Zoo, also known as Kebun Binatang Surabaya (KBS), was founded in 1916 and is the one of the largest zoos in South East Asia, covering 37 acres and housing over 350 species. The zoo has fallen into disrepute over the last few years with widespread allegations of mistreatment, corruption, and uncontrolled breeding. Many of the animals cared for at KBS live in pitiable conditions, some are highly endangered species. This must stop.

The Zoo states there are 2,800 animals living there, other reports put the number at closer to 4,000. The mistreatment of the animals started to attract widespread condemnation in 2010. In that year, the Jakarta Post labelled KBS as the Surabaya “Zoo of Death”.  In the same year the Forestry Ministry revoked Surabaya Zoo’s license after many animal deaths including rare species such as Sumatran tigers, Komodo Dragons, lions and crocodiles.

East Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) conducted an investigation, which found that negligent keepers were to blame for most of the animal deaths. It is alleged that zookeepers are stealing meat which they sell to the black market. Also that animals are being stolen by the zookeepers and also sold.

The zoo does not have the cashflow needed to feed, house and breed the animals in it’s care. Entry is less than US$2.00 per person. It does not generate enough. Subsequently, the animals are maltreated and underfed. The zoo is unable to separate breeding animals, so breeding is out of control. For example, nearly 200 pelicans inhabit a filthy enclosure the size of a basketball court. They do not have the room to move their wings.

A giraffe that died that was found to have an 18kg ball of plastic in it’s stomach, It had been living off food thrown to it by vistors, such as candy bars, which often still had the wrapper on it.

Tigers are kept locked in small concrete cells because they do not have enough room to exercise. They are allowed out of their damp cells for only 3 days for every 10 they are locked up.  Some animals have chronic long term back and leg complaints because they cannot exercise.  Many have wasting digestive diseases from eating tainted meat.

Some animals are being moved and their condition is improving, however even during their movement they are still being abused by KBS staff.  When the zoo relocated several hippopotami, the animals were physically beaten and injured during the process.

We call on the honourable President, Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, to mandate the following 5 actions immediately:

1) Close Surabaya zoo permanently and dismiss the management.  Hire reputable, qualified staff to engage in the immediate care of the animals.

2) Increase funding and security to ensure all animals receive the proper diet, and medical attention necessary.

3) For any animal where rehabilitation is feasible to the point where the animal could survive in the wild, rehabilitation must take place under the direction of qualified experts, so that they can be released back into the wild.

4) Any animals with incurable, degenerative conditions, and that are in significant pain must be humanely euthanized based on the recommendation of veterinary experts.

5) Commission an enquiry with the view to identify the causes of the conditions and the zoo, and the prosecution of those responsible for the state of the animals.

Please act – the world is watching.

The Hoopla Around Rushab Choksi’s Fake Account on Twitter

So, the entire India wanted to know what is/could be reaction was Karishma Tanna’s ex bf especially after Bakea man Cyrus Briacha tweeted that he personally knows the Escobar owner Rushabh and he isn’t like KT is portraying on the national TV. So someone quickly (of course a smartass on social media) quickly made a fake account – @rushabhchoksii and started tweeting from it.

The funny part was he became the headlines of many online portals including BL, BOC, MM and many other known websites who are known for giving news/gossips from Bollywood. It is strange the number of times the same news was multiplied without checking the authenticity…….

Nobody knows whether the account is fake or real, but in the name of breaking news everybody embedded the tweet, enjoying the attention from the crowd until they were bashed for giving wrong info……

Off late people are going crazy for a certain Baba on social media and are trying their best to trend #ISupportMSG and #WeLoveMSG – Are we Indians so stupid? I mean can a decent normal baba who is actually a spiritual guru ever dress, behave or sing like this idiot? And if that was not enough, there are his over the top dumbass supporters who come out in defense of him….

Are these so called supporters myopic? Are they so dumb that they follow people like this Rockstar Baba? I mean, how can people think a person as his guru or baba who acts like a fool, dresses like a moron, and sings a song with lyrics like – Love charger, network tere pyaar ka and what not…..

Vision 2020: The India of My Dreams

Question Details

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high,

Where knowledge is free,

Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls,

Where words come out from the depth of truth,

Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection,

Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit,

Where the mind is led forward by Thee into ever-widening thought and action,

Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.”

Rabindra Nath Tagore prior to our Independence had penned down these lines articulating his thoughts for a free India. India then became a free nation and even achieved all these basic parameters led by the great Bengali poet. However, after six decades of independence, the same lines somehow look unaccomplished to a contemporary mind. The inspiring words yet again motivate us to bring about radical change in India. My Vision 2020 for India is decoding these lines all over again by transforming these rhetoric lines into action.

The-india-developed

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high – A Prosperous Nation encompassing Peace, National Security and Unity

Riots, gender discrimination, sexual harassment – Can a nation ever prosper with these vices? Never! So, eliminating all this vulnerability is very necessary in order to tread in the path of progress and development. Secondly, any country can only develop if the people at the grass root level rises. This makes it apparent that equal opportunities with adequate facilities for the bottom of the pyramid should be a motto to make India shine brightly.

Where knowledge is free – 100% Literacy and Jobs

A developing country can never become a developed nation if its people remain illiterate and are deprived from basic education. My Vision 2020 includes free education for sustainable livelihood to all the Indians so that they have a better life along with a better ‘power of purchase’. No more poverty and hunger being a hindrance in India’s path to success.

Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls – Liberalization changing India’s face at the global level

No more country boundaries, trade barriers should ever confine Indians from achieving the best. The spirit of globalizationtranscending the face of India in terms of prosperity, and India reaching its full potential is what I see India in the year 2020.

Where words come out from the depth of truth, Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection – Good Governance along with commercial success

Dynamic and far-sighted leadership through transparency, proper administration and continuous growth can maximize the economic development of India. Maximum utilization of technology, skills and resources can drive the nation swiftly. Also, important parameters like health facilities including vaccination, immunization, child nutritional programme and sanitation can make us a far better nation state.

Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit – Progress through adequate technology and infrastructure by neglecting obsolete ideas

India from ages has been behind in various fields due to certain customs. However, our nation can move way beyond only if these hurdles are set aside and radical thinking is practiced. Radical thought is what should conquer in every Indian’s mind to envision a bright future for the country.

The India of my dreams is educated, advanced, liberal and prosperous. I envision Indians not only unified within but also closely attached with the global world, indeed implementing our Sanskrit phrase – “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” with proud and honour.
