Vedic Aryans and Population Genetics
The thorniest, most fought-over question in Indian history is slowly but surely getting answered: did Indo-European language speakers, who called themselves Aryans, stream into India sometime around 2,000 BC – 1,500 BC when the Indus Valley civilisation came to an end, bringing with them Sanskrit and a distinctive set of cultural practices? Genetic research based on an avalanche of new DNA evidence is making scientists around the world converge on an unambiguous answer: yes, they did. The Hindu, 17 June 2017. Tony Joseph
Population Genetic Research clearly show that R1a carrying populations migrated (from Middle East, Central Asia and Europe that is MECAE) to India and genetically mixed up with Natives around 2000 BCE. Whether these R1a carriers Invaded India or migrated in search of food and employment is a different question. Dr. Ambedkar thought that migrants might have indulged in skirmishes with the Native Indians.
It is important to note that Rig Veda was composed/ edited during 1500 to 1200 BCE that is almost 500 years after the genetic mixing up of migrant MECA people with Native Indians. Thus the people who called themselves Arya (Aryan) in the Rig Veda are not MECA people but probably are the descendants of MECA and the Native Indians. See for example Veda Vyas is Krishna Dwipayana, meaning ‘the dark skinned born in island’. Most importantly Vedic Aryans have ancestry to both Native Indians and MECA people. Thus MECA people may be called pre Vedic Aryans. Interestingly Rig Veda praises Saraswati as Mighty Flood which apparently dried up around 3000 BCE that is much before the arrival of MECA people. Vedic Aryans might have learned about Saraswati River through their Native Indian ancestors. There is mis translated continuity from Indus Valley Civilization (IVC) to Vedic period. According to Iravathan Mahadevan, Maran the trader during IVC period who used to barter at ampali (cross road) becomes Pusan the God of traders in Rig Veda who ate gruel (ambali) because he had no teeth! Ampali is misunderstood as ambali!!
Apparently Indo- European speaking MECA people are just uncivilised nomadic tribes who came to India with horses and without any civilization and hence took up Native Indian culture/civilisation/ religion and Aryanised the same. Thus Poleramma the mother Goddess of IVC peopled became ‘Kali Mata’ the dark skinned mother Goddess and her younger brother ‘Potu Raju’ became Pashu Pati. Potu in Telugu (a Dravidian language) means male animal (roughly Pashu in Sanskrit) and Raju is Pati meaning ruler.
Genetic Research shows that the Original/Pre Vedic Aryans are not native to India and Sanskrit is not purely Indian. Futile attempts to show that Aryans are Indian lead us nowhere.
