Manisha Koirala Shines in Dear Maya i.indiaopines.com

After multiple breaks from the movies due to some personal reasons and a battle with cancer, prominent actor, Manisha Koirala is finally back with Sunaina Bhatnagar’s directorial debut. The actor, who has been praised for her work in the past, is receiving rave bollywood movie reviews for her latest outing as well.

Dear Maya, is truly special because it marks the return of a stellar performer to the silver screen. It focuses on themes like the importance of hope, redicovering life and the dynamics of human relationships. The plot of this  new bollywood movie revolves around a lonely middle-aged woman who has confined herself to the four walls of a deserted mansion for over two decades. She lives there with her two dogs, some birds and a faithful helper. Her sixteen year-old neighbor, Anna, and her mischevious best friend, Ira, are curious about her lifestyle. On learning that her solitude is the result of tragic incidents in the past, the two decide to spice up her life by writing letters in the name of a non-existent admirer.

Dear Maya

The movie released on June 2, 2017 and it also stars Shreya Singh Chaudhary, Madiha Imam and Iravati Harshe in pivotal roles. The three actors are a delight to watch on screen. Most critics have claimed that Manisha Koirala’s has delivered her career best performance in this fantastic movie. Even though she does not say much most of the time, she delivers a fine, heart-winning and sincere act. With an actor of her calibre, words are obviously just a mere formality. However, the one disappointment that many have raised with regard to this movie is the fact that the actor does not have enough screen time.

The director of the film, has assisted Imtiaz Ali in the past. She has managed to handle the crucial elements of the film with utmost care. What works in the movie is the fact that it does not have a conventional story. Instead it has a different yet intriguing story; a kind that has never been witnessed in Bollywood before. The ratings are a reflection of that. As most of us would already know, english film reviews usually decide the fate of a film in the West. Likewise, in India, what critics say is rather important. It determines how well a film will eventually do. Luckily for this movie, the reviews have been positive and very much in favor of the film.

Revealed: Why Bigg Boss celebs fail to make it big after the show!

Bigg Boss may be India’s number one reality show! But history has it that most celebs do not know how to handle the instant fame once they attain stardom from it. They are unable to propel themselves to the next level and fade and fizzle out, or return to their past status over time. So why does this happen?

“It is not only important to be a star, but crucial to maintain the buzz and constantly grow from it. And that’s where the maximum ‘BB returns’ falter,” remarks Bollywood PR guru Dale Bhagwagar who has handled the media for a full 20 contestants since the first season.

“The instant success and newfound fan base, largely consisting of diehard, fanatical, nasty and fickle-minded idolizing Twitterati, goes to the heads of many. They cease professional PR activity after the show, assuming they have arrived. In all this adulatory frenzy, what they don’t realize is that Bollywood industry circles work on different parameters,” analyzes the public relations expert.

“After enjoying the powerful Bigg Boss platform, the participants forget to draw up a PR strategy to sustain the momentum required to build their careers further. But the worst scenario is for those who lack the knowledge, focus, vision, guidance, contacts and connections to promote their careers after the humongous hype,” explains the publicist.

True! Given the kind of publicity the contestants get, including weekly attention from megastar host Salman Khan, it would be very important to streamline and channelize their future imaging and branding plans with foresight. Even the show’s winners have lacked that.

Shocking! When SRK was slapped by a woman in Mumbai

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan made quite a few candid confessions at the trailer launch of his upcoming film ‘Fan’. While many were amusing, one of them came as a shocker!

While replying to a fan’s question on whether he came by flight or train the first time he travelled to Mumbai, the actor revealed that he came to Mumbai by train and was even slapped by a woman on that journey!

Narrating the ordeal, SRK said, “I came by train for the first time when I came to Mumbai. The train would turn into a local after entering Mumbai which I was not aware of. So I did not let a few people sit on my berth saying that it is mine, ‘I paid for it.’ I did offer it to a lady, though, saying, ‘you can sit but I won’t let the men with you sit on my berth’. And that lady slapped me real hard saying that ‘it isn’t yours, it is everybody’s.”

Not quite the welcome one would expect into a new city!

In ‘Fan’, Khan will be seen playing two roles, one of a superstar Aryan Khanna and the other of his fan Gaurav, who comes across as his lookalike.

After the teaser of the film and the anthem track ‘Jabra Fan’ gave the impression that it was a ‘sweet and simple’ kind of film, the trailer might have surprised his fans, considering that this ‘fan’ gets agitated after an unpleasant experience with his favourite star and wants to get even with him.

However, Shah Rukh Khan denied that the ‘fan’ character he plays bears resemblance to his ‘psycho’ characters in films ‘Darr’ and ‘Baazigar’.

Directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra, ‘Fan’ releases on April 15.

It has been an everyday occurence. before it was about loving and living toegther but these days the news is all about breakups, cheating and more. Why is it that these couples who have got everything they need – fame, money and beautiful partners cheat, fight and breakup? I think that affects the society too as young adults will be influenced by the fact that breakups are okay or an everyday occurence.

Salman Khan and Portia, the Daniel comes to judgment on the final verdict of a humane judgement ! i.indiaopines.com

Salman Khan and the Daniel comes to judgment and the final verdict! A pedestrians view SOS Harish Salve!

Me Lord the Government stands guilty at 35%, the Police at 25%, Lack of ideas in Mumbai Muni. Corpn. 15%, Pavement squatters themselves to be blamed at 15% and Sallu bhai at a sad 10% ! My Lord, I shall substantiate my points now to demolish bit by bit the fashionable wannabes’ stand, who just wish to do some lip service in their shallow siding of the poor and downtrodden!

This is just a point of view and why should anyone be closed not to mull over other points of opinion, regardless of where the final decision goes, as that is about fate and not in our hands! Like in a management class, we learn, there are more than a few ways to tackle one single situation; the final plunge can always be taken after mulling over all of them, then take a decision on the best balanced one, but do give Salman a chance!

So what are the options over here with Salman Khan? Lets give an ace journalist the first say. Is it not an artificial rant of an Oxford returned journalist, well you got to decide and I’d quote Sagarika Ghose – “ When a rich drunk person, without license drives a SUV over poor people, kills one, hurts 3, he won’t be punished – if he’s a celebrity. Farcical!” Well she junks Salman’s claim to freedom.

Who will tell her, to forgive is Divine, and to err is Human and yes, it is was an accident! The Oxford dictionary defines ‘accident’ an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly & unintentionally, typically resulting in damage, death or injury!

This is extremely sad that people wish to take pot shots at rich and the famous, to find out how popular their tweets become and do some arm chair socialism talk. Where were they before the accident – do they ever raise the topic of slum dwellers, their abject miserable lives and how they could help these less fortunate ones; years after years pass and all these 13 years after the accident have also passed, have you ever spoken of the homeless, try and get them some night shelter to hide their ignoble heads in?

Goddamnit, for God’s sake, it’s a Road a pavement, not a house or a night shelter! A road, supposed to have trucks, buses, cars and all sorts of vehicles at different speeds, where no one rules out the possibility of a road accident, which occurs by the dime and dozen in our huge big country, all due to an error of human judgment! Its common sense that you skirt / invite trouble if you are to sleep by the roadside, its for one’s asking; come on, don’t you find it suicidal to sleep in a pavement of a busy Mumbai road! And don’t you realize that this is very much a State fault, it’s a multi – fault line! Roti, Kapdaa aur Makaan are a destitutes’ right, which have not been provided to the under privileged after 67 years of independence!

Secondly, tell me why the night patrol Police cannot be taken to task for not ensuring the pavements / roads are clear and not used as an open night shelter and shoe them off from such vulnerable spots, so that these squatters may not expose themselves to such a dangerous situation! Is it not something like asking for trouble … sleeping in pavements, so close to the road would you allow it too anyone known to you poor or rich! So why can’t we support the very correct point of view of Abhijeet Bhattacharya barring the harsh words which too are part of the bitter truth !

Ms Ghose, why have you not addressed the bigger problems all these years that you are now singing and tweeting a ‘be-sura’ tweet; is it coz’ its fashionable or are you truly following social developments very seriously and your heart bleeds for the downtrodden! I ask why, why these careless rants, its just not necessary! Please read your pre-scripted news on television, which you are good at, don’t pass uncalled for, unsubstantiated, immature judgments!

And my last point, thirdly – why the local municipal corporation have not a.) provided night shelters b.) Why are parks not used to sleep out at night c.) Why stadia’s can’t be opened up to house the hapless at night d.) In rainy seasons why buses can’t be used to give overnight shelters to the homeless!

My simple point is why these relevant questions cannot be asked to the politicians, instead of pushing Salman to the dungeons!

In fact this case should be used to have a catalytic effect on some of the growth issues of the state, which has obviously not taken place in ages … and this accident could be a turning point in the fate of these slum dwellers; while it should be made into a big issue for giving homes to the homeless and simultaneously have a zero tolerance to any new squatters who should not be allowed to invade Mumbai roads where accidentally a poor xyz celebrity and the hapless victims get into another sad fateful incident!

Now, coming to the question as to, why we are talking about soft peddling Salman’s case? Khuda Qasam, Salman ek nek dil insaan with a Golden heart, how can you take that away from him and how can you do him in for 5 years, impossible! No one wants even a 5 months or 5 weeks term for him, for that matter! In case you have to satiate your judgmental egos and come out with the great theory of – “ Drunken driving is a serious offence, like a person going on a killing spree, he should not be allowed to go scot free. ” Well then give him an exemplary punishment for 5 days and then release him! But, why this special treatment for him, you’ll ask? So here you are … TOI brought out recently, top 10 Humanitarian contributions and I quote:

Salman Khan is amongst the most charitable stars in Bollywood, he is famous for his large heartedness, spurt of on the moment reactions. Here are the points:

  1. Santa Salman : For Salman Khan everyday seems to be Christmas, as he plays the role of year-round Santa Claus to perfection. There is a famous story of a child, who refused to eat until Salman Khan came in person to meet him. The worried parents ran helter-skelter until Sallu heard of it; true to his trademark style, he stopped shooting and made a dash to meet the kid and grant him his wish. No mean achievement!
  1. Help to destitute prisoners :  Salman Khan learned that many prisoners were unable to secure their release from prison. The reason being, they simply did not have money to pay for the legal fine slapped on them. In order to reunite 400 jailed convicts with their families, Salman Khan paid nearly 40 Lakhs through his NGO Being Human.

3. Homeless Kids :

Salman Khan always has had soft corner for homeless kids. Perhaps part of the reason is his own fractured childhood. Being Human is majorly involved in the upliftment for the poor and homeless kids.

4. Charity for Needy

Salman Khan’s generosity for those hit by natural disaster or in dire need of money is not so well known. His charity organization, Being Human, donated Rs.50 Lacs to flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir, besides victims of Bihar floods. He also donated 200 lenses for visually challenged in Sri Lanka. He instantly donated Rs.45 lakh to an old age home.

  1. Cancer Patients

Salman Khan has always been leading and advocating the rights of cancer patients & need to provide them with timely and affordable treatment. He has helped patients with dire needs.

  1. Child – Labour Free India

Salman Khan used his star-appeal and the support of his legions of fans nation-wide, to help eradicate India of child labour. Bachpan Bachao Andolan was a thought headed by them, but Salman Khan’s association, lent weight, gravity and width to the campaign.

  1. Bone Marrow Donation

A little girl Pooja suffering from a life threatening disease was in need of Bone marrow donor. On learning of her requirement, Salman Khan asked his entire football team to go and donate, but when they backed out, the superstar himself landed up at the hospital with his brother Arbaaz Khan and donated his bone marrow.

  1. Clothes, Merchandise, Lifestyle, and Café

Being Human’s business model – for lack of a better word – is based on generating money to finance its charitable activities. It also plans to have larger lifestyle stores and also enter into the cafe’ business. As Salman Khan has often said, he wants Being Human to be his legacy, to be much bigger than him and eventually outlast him.

  1. Never Signed a Cheque

This story comes from the superstar’s sister, Alvira Khan. She has stated that Salman Khan had never signed a check until 6 months back. He hates money matters, has no idea of all his assets, including a three bungalows farmhouse in Panvel, several properties in and around Mumbai. He enjoys the freedom to concentrate on work, never to be bothered about bank accounts, investments and properties which his father handles.

  1. Mr. 10%

Salman Khan is not in the business of making a 10% cut in the under table deals. Instead, he keeps just 10% of his earnings for himself and donates the rest to charity. Not surprisingly, his lawyers pleaded before the court that Salman Khan had donated a massive amount of 42 crores in just 3 years.

Salman Khan thus is a giver. God has given him the contraptions to be a HERO, so what can he do, but be one!! He is not a selfish person. He has shown bigger than life large heartedness and what he can do, an ordinary person like you and me cannot! If I was in his place you could have thrown me into jail for a few years I wouldn’t care … In fact I wish I could offer myself if that would condone Salman’s!

And now for a bombshell! There is a niche audience who have the information of a corporate’s son in his new Austin Martin (priced at a whopping 1.5 crores) very recently spotted, driven at a break neck speed only to crash near a bridge, killing 2 persons outright on this Mumbai road! A newspaper reporting was taken off at the nick of the moment, not a single channel ran the news (as all them are controlled by the megalo businessman ‘n owner of RIL).

Now, this corporate businessman has the well known reputation of taking out one rupee from every Indian’s pocket everyday, thus translating to 1 billion rupees everyday; and then he commits a crime in getting his son’s criminal sins gagged! HE KILLS, GAGS AND GOES SCOT FREE, MS. SAGORIKA GHOSE WHY SHOULD SALMAN THE MAD HATTER, ALWAYS ACT GOD, DONATE AND GIVE AWAY SO MUCH AND BEAR A PAIN FOR 13 YEARS’ TORTURE, THEN WHY CAN’T HE BE PARDONED!!

THE CURSE ONE DAY WILL FALL ON THE RICH BUT SALMAN IS A GOOD SAMARITAN TO THE BONE, AND EACH AND EVERY POOR PERSONS’ “DUA” / BLESSING IS WITH HIM! SO PLEASE START THINKING GOOD ABOUT THIS ONE MAN ANGELIC ARMY!

His good deeds far outweigh his short comings, so there has to be mercy and there are no two ways about it! He has kept millions entertained, brought smiles to the faces of so many hapless, how can we forget him as a great gift from God to all mankind? Answer these few questions and you shall get your replies! May God bless this man! For me he is just poor fellow, victim of circumstance!

What is done cannot be undone, so the punitive action that is to be meted out to a man of as great a following, talent, and capacity, obviously God’s chosen child, cannot just be the guillotine / lynch / or a jail. As an exemplary judgment he should be made to take complete responsibility of the victim’s family, give them a good life as a compensation for the rest of their living. As a matter of fact a new law could be enacted for the dream world merchants and the likes of Salman for such an unintentional crime, who are very capable of earning handsomely! They should be made to earn and voluntarily donate 10% of their earnings, which should get deposited to the court every month for disbursing to those hapless victims’ families!!

We got to stop cribbing about rich and famous rant, Salman is not just another spoilt brat of a rich man hurtling down Mumbai roads; acknowledge the celluloid Hero is a real life Hero too – as Salman Khan is, a true larger than life Human being worshipped by the poor and loved by his artistic fraternity – men or women, some of them rich, bold and beautiful! Its not just about another hit and run case!

Why is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looking so tired? st1.bollywoodlife.com

Is the Jazbaa shoot taking a toll on the actress? A picture can speak a thousand words and this one surely did!

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan‘s beauty has been described in many ways by many men and women. She is one of the most beautiful women on earth and we can’t agree more. That was also one of the reasons why we were so eager to see her back onscreen. Fortunately, the actress gave her nod to Sanjay Gupta’s Jazbaa; so very soon she will be on 70mm once again. But guess the shoot is turning out to be too strenuous for Aishwarya. A recent picture of her makes her look tired and tad sleep-deprived.

It won’t be wrong to say that Aishwarya’s eyes are her assets. They are glorious, light coloured and extremely expressive. Hence, the same couldn’t hide the actress’s tiredness during the second schedule wrap of Jazbaa. It is big and bright, but it seems weary. Although she isn’t devoid of makeup as is evident, it failed to conceal her tired out face.

Also starring, a pretty, outspoken, vivacious… cross breed kid version of Kareena in Jab We Met and Anushka in Band Baja Baraat. With a firangi NRI hero to create a forced love triangle and we know who will get the Dulhaniya.

AIB ROAST – Pooja Bhatt Calls Aamir Khan Dangerous

“I feel it’s hypocritical self-styled moralists and the Aamir Khans of the world, who are more frightening and injurious. I am appalled at his sudden self-righteous mode. He has completely forgotten his body of work – the double meaning song, ‘Bhaag DK Bose’ in Delhi Belly, and the PK poster where he left nothing to the imagination, putting Sunny Leone to shame,” said Pooja.

Aamir Khan Opines on AIB Roast, Calls It An Violent Act!

Always known to be a man who speaks his mind, and being assertive about every aspect of his life, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan had a thing or two to say about the very controversial AIB Knockout Roast starring Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, among others.

At yesterday’s Youth for Governance 2015 against corruption event, he was asked by a member of the press about his take on the extremely popular, yet severely criticised show that was promoted on Youtube.

“I was deeply affected by that. I completely believe in the freedom of speech. But we have to understand that we all have a certain responsibility,” he said in response.

“There was a lot of violence in that event. Violence need not be just physical, it can be verbal, it can be emotional. I am not impressed with “gaalis”, that age has long gone. I am not longer 14, that I will laugh at someone giving a “gaali”. I am not impressed by bad language,” he continued.

Raising concerns over increasing corruption in the country, Aamir Khan has joined My Right, My Responsibility themed Youth for Governance 2015.

What’s So ‘Vulgar’ About The AIB Roast?

“At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world was awake India shut her eyes to life and freedom. A moment came, not rare in history, when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, lost utterance.” Pandit Nehru just shuddered in his grave.

AIB roast controversy

I am referring to the infamous FIR against a team of artists – comedians, and also citizens of India. The very fact that #AIBNationalShame and #WeStandByAIBKnockout have been top trends on Twitter in India speaks volumes about how the threat to freedom of speech and expression is one of our most crucial battles.

Before stating my opinion on the debate, let’s get our basics right. First things first, the genre of insult comedy is self-explanatory – it’s humour derived from insulting another person. The genre has been quite popular internationally for decades now, started as early as 1949 by The Friars Club. So, when the All India Bakchod organized the AIB Knockout in January featuring Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh with Karan Johar as the roastmaster, the first question which came to my mind was – “are we there yet?”.

I thought we were. We were finally “saying in public what we say in parties”, as Rohan Joshi said on the show. They were not talking about something ‘alien’ or out-of-the-box. But the breakthrough can be seen in their attempt to initiate a dialogue in public on issues that we have conveniently confined to our private comfort zones. Their sword was humour, the kind we indulge in with our friends. Stand up comedy is a form of resistance. Even when some of the jokes were directed towards homosexuals, in a way they were a step towards addressing the issue of homophobia. That was their way of entering into conversation. So I see it as bringing a self-actualization principle, and of us as rising to a new conscience.

The argument is not about acquiring a feigned sense of modernity by aping something from the “western culture”. It was “different” from the usual run-off-the-mill comedy, and refreshing. Judging it within the framework of a traditional comedy is completely missing the point.

I think the medium and the demographic placement of the artists also needs to be looked at, the AIB is a YouTube channel, entitled to their opinion. There is a certain kind of creative freedom and freedom of expression that the internet not only entails but also necessitates. One cannot ignore the operative mechanism which grants one form of entertainment a primetime slot on television, while ‘the other’ resort to more permissive and liberal platforms such as the web. Usually, not essentially, it is true that thoughts which do not cohere with the dominant ideology harbour themselves on the internet. Away from state-censorship and corporate pressure, the internet becomes the platform for the audience to enjoy those pockets of entertainment.

According to a global public opinion poll conducted by the BBC World Service in 2010, majority of the users, including the Indian users, strongly agreed that the Internet had brought them more freedom, they saw it as a fundamental right, and it gave them the space to express their opinion. So, it is not as if people are repressed and that’s why they avail entertainment on the internet. That is not the principle at work here. On the contrary, it is the social filtering and moral policing, which is the most regressive and redundant form of control as manifested through the FIR.

If one looks at the entertainment presented to us in prime time TV, the hypocrisy of the system is exposed. How about our very own home-grown desi Russel Peters, our most celebrated and loved show Comedy Nights With Kapil. Isn’t the humour on the show misogynistic, sexist, racist, homophobic and insensitive to gender ? But we laugh out loud!

The dispute is really the fact that the state cannot be selective about such actions. Threat to freedom of expression is the most disgraceful thing to be happening in the world’s largest democracy. The threat to creative freedom is perhaps the worst fear of an artist.

The humour on the AIB Knockout was sharp. Could it have been done in a “less offensive” manner? Maybe. Maybe not. I’m not advocating “their brand of humour”, but intent and context are two crucial aspects to be kept in mind when one discourses upon what is it that constitutes the funny. Say they were bad, scorn them. But by maintaining silence on the charges against them, you are siding with the oppressor and making them powerful.

Remember that the operative principle here is : “I do not find your joke funny, but I will defend to death your right to crack it

The Bollywood Movie- 2 States was released last year in 2014 and made it to the 100-crore-at-Box-Office-club.
It’s based on the novel of the same name by popular author, Chetan Bhagat. He was also associated with the film-making process. The movie is faithful to the book. However, it’s an abridged version and some key characters like Dolly are missing in the movie.
Krish and Ananya are wonderfully portrayed by the young rising stars- Arjun Kapoor & Alia Bhatt. The movie, like the book, is about the Locha-e-Ulfat (problem of love) that happens when IIM MBA students Krish and Ananya meet.

When a Movie Gets Political: Case of Haider letbeautybeyourconstantideal.blogspot.in

Vishal Bhardwaj has managed to present, for the most part, a good adaptation of this powerful story using an interesting and engaging narration. The lead actors in the film have performed their parts very well, making the experience of movie watching quite enjoyable. But what puzzles me (and perhaps many other people too, if I go by some of the comments and discussions going on in social media and also on the basis of a few reviews of the film) is the choice of political context in which the story of Haider has been situated. This article presents a list of seven points which made me wonder whether this time around the filmmaker’s love for Shakespeare has taken a backseat to his politics in this third adaptation of the bard’s plays. – See more at: http://letbeautybeyourconstantideal.blogspot.in/2014/10/when-movie-gets-political-case-of-haider.html

‘Bigg Boss 9’ Mandana fights with her team over task www.ilovenewz.com

'Bigg Boss 9' Mandana fights with her team over task

Mandana Karimi who is seething with rage over her destroyed belongings, fights with her own teammates who are asking her to give up the task. Will she pay heed?

With the housemates being tested on their ‘pride’ quotient, the war to destroy the opponent’s belongings continues with Mandana and Kawaljeet being the targets during the task. When Mandana’s prized possessions are taken away and destroyed, Mandana claims that she is emotionally attached to those three items. She further continues by saying that the items taken away from Kawaljeet only beget his materialistic attachment and do not stand even ground to her emotions.

While housemates claim that Mandana’s selfishness does not allow her to see other’s emotions, Kawaljeet keeps up his stance by saying that he does not care about anything else but his spondylitis pillow.

Mandana gathers up her team members Keith, Rochelle and Prince in the bedroom and tells them that she does not wish to give up on the task because her favorite belongings have been taken away and destroyed. Rochelle and Keith oppose her opinion and ask her if she will not feel guilty about destroying anyone else’s belongings.

They also request Kawaljeet to give up when Priya overhears this and forbids them from convincing Kawaljeet to give up. After this, Kawaljeet’s team takes away Mandana’s Versace shoes and destroys them as well.

Later, when Rochelle requests someone to stop this task because it has reached beyond everyone’s tolerance level, Mandana claims that they will always have a problem with her because when she gives up during a task, they want her to continue and when she diligently does her task, she is asked to give up! Rochelle says that they are only fighting for her belongings and do not wish to see them destroyed.

Realising that the house has been immersed in chaos, Priya puts order to the task and says that as the supervisor of the task, she has come to a conclusion. She says that if a team wants to give up on a task, she will take that as the final verdict. Rochelle, Keith and Prince who are convinced that they wish to discontinue the task immediately raise the white flag, much to Mandana’s dismay. Later, Rishabh feels bad for Mandana and hugs her, emoting how much he empathises with her situation.

Meanwhile, in the garden area, Prince and Kishwer get into a heated argument when Kishwer blames Prince for destroying Kawaljeet’s spondylitis pillow and says that they should have thought before taking away Kawaljeet’s medical conditions. In his defense, Prince says that they did not intend to make him suffer. Prince further retorts by saying that according to his logic, Bigg Boss would have most definitely returned the spondylitis pillow to him after the task and that’s why they decided to destroy it.

After lights out, Mandana is still seething with rage and talking to Rishabh about how Keith and Rochelle always try and maintain their image. Rishabh tells her firmly that it was her attitude that went against her. Overhearing the conversation, Keith tells Mandana that he does not play upon his image and that the task was primarily about taking it to a level where everyone’s tolerance level will be put to test.

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who stars in American TV series “Quantico”, set the eyes rolling at the 22nd Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards here while flaunting her curves in a pink lace mesh gown.

The annual award show took place at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall here on Saturday where Priyanka, 33, was a presenter.

Priyanka, who rose to international fame after starring in American TV series “Quantico”, in which she plays the lead role of FBI agent Alex Parrish, shared her before-the-show look on Instagram on Saturday.

The photograph showed a closet full with a variety of heels.

“Red carpet preparations! My favourite part. @sagawards looking forward,” she captioned the image.

Earlier this month, Priyanka also became the first South Asian actress to win a People’s Choice Awards.

Designed by Monique Lhuillier, the strapless dress was covered with pink and white lace designs.

Mainstream Hindi cinema witnessing change, says Shabana Azmi www.ilovenewz.com

Mainstream Hindi cinema witnessing change, says Shabana Azmi

Actress Shabana Azmi has said that mainstream Hindi cinema is witnessing a change from the stereotypical portrayal of mothers and other characters in earlier times.

“There is a change coming in mainstream Hindi cinema. Earlier, when there used to be a role of a mother, she would drop the thaali and scream ‘nahi’, an absolutely stereotypical role. And in Hindi films, there was always an attempt to wipe out all the details,” Azmi said at a press meet regarding the success of her film ‘Neerja’.

This has been changing now, she said, adding that if you see, in mainstream cinema we are locating our characters.

Azmi plays a role based on Rama Bhanot in the film, the mother of Neerja Bhanot (played by Sonam Kapoor), a flight attendant who laid her life in protecting passengers on a hijacked flight in 1986.

The relationship between her and Sonam has been one of the highlights of the film, having earned appreciation from critics and fans.

While there were numerous Punjabi mothers shown in Hindi films, many of them have been stereotypical with the accent, mannerisms and behaviour.

“For any character it is important that you play different types of characters, and in Neerja’s character, there was a Punjabiyat, but we didn’t blow trumpets about it, only a few lines of it were used, and people have appreciated it. That’s the way forward. The most delightful feeling is that numerous Punjabi mothers said that I looked exactly like them,” Azmi said.

She also said that she’s getting numerous compliments from people who said that she made them cry.

“Javed sahab cried a lot when he saw the trial; he was speechless for a substantial time. He then watched it in the theatre and again cried a lot there,” she responded on being asked if her husband Javed Akhtar also feels the same?

‘Neerja’ has done good business at the box-office, having earned more than Rs.50 crore at the box-office in its first week.

History purists demand a ban on 'Bajirao Mastani' through a Facebook page

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani seems to have run into trouble with history purists.

After a descendant of the Peshwa clan wrote a letter slamming the director for the misrepresentation of culture in the ‘Pinga’ song, problems have snowballed into a full-blown campaign to ban the film.

A Facebook page has been created, asking for a ban on the movie. The page claims to highlight the manner in which the film has tweaked facts on the pretext of creative liberty. With about 1500 likes for the page, the campaign seems to be gaining momentum.

The description of the page reads, “This movie is purely insulting the glorious History of Shri Bajirao Peshwa. Lets not forget his valor. Lets work together to halt misrepresentation.” The page has shared copies of the letter written to the filmmaker as well as the one written to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis.

My character different from Juhi's in 'Darr' remake: Priya Banerjee

Actress Priya Banerjee, who reprises Juhi Chawla’s role in the eponymous remake of 1993 film “Darr”, says her role is quite different from the original character that it is based on.

“This is a remake with a twist. Although I play Juhi’s part, our roles are very different from each other and that makes the remake stand out,” Priya, who is paired with Karanvir Bohra in the film, told IANS.

She’s aware there will be comparisons, but considers it an honour to be part of a celebrated film.

“I can already feel lot of pressure and because our roles are being compared, the expectations are very high,” she said.

The makers had initially considered Ileana D’Cruz, but destiny worked in Priya’s favour.

“They were also in talks with a Pakistani actress, who was almost confirmed. However, things didn’t fall in place and they finally approached me. I was shooting for another film and didn’t have dates,” said Priya, who was moved when the makers adjusted the dates for her.

“It was so nice of them to adjust the whole schedule just for me,” she said, adding that when she came on board, she had to juggle between the sets of two films. It was hectic. I had to simultaneously shoot for my other film ‘3 Dev’, which I had signed even before this film,” Priya said.

Having completed the first schedule of both the projects, Priya is gearing up for busier months ahead.

“I don’t even know how I’m going to manage. When the next schedule starts, I know I’ll be shooting for nearly 20 hours a day or even more,” she said.

Last seen in Sanjay Gupta’s “Jazbaa”, in which she played Shabana Azmi’s teenager daughter, Priya is equally excited about “3 Dev”.

“It’s a fun film with a strong social message. I’m so lucky to be working with an ensemble cast featuring Kay Kay, Tisca Chopra and Kunaal Roy Kapur among others,” she said.

Priya, who has also worked in Telugu films “Kiss”, “Joru” and “Asura”, says she will always a soft spot for south industry.

“I’ll always be open to doing southern films. It’s just that I have a very busy schedule ahead and have no dates for a new project till mid next year. Right after I finish shooting my two Hindi projects, I’ll start working on another Hindi film,” she signed off.

McClenaghan looking forward to smooth return

Mitchell McClenaghan, New Zealand pacer, said that he ‘calmed down’ when he realised that he could see properly after being hit over his eyebrow during the first One-Day International (ODI) match against Pakistan at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.

A bouncer from Anwar Ali hit the helmet andricochetedto hit his left eyebrow. He was admitted to a hospital straightaway where two metal plates were inserted.

Narrating the experience, the New Zealand pacer said, “My first thought was why didn’t I hit it. Then, when I was trying to get (the ball) out, my conscious thought was ‘can I see?’,” McClenaghan told stuff.co.nz on Thursday (February 4).

“I realised the impact was above the eye and I’ve seen a few cases where people haven’t been able to make a comeback from that. I calmed down as soon as knew I was able to see out of the eye.

“It was a shock to see the damage, how bad it was and getting the plates was a bit of a shock as well. I’m hoping the job (the surgeon) has done is going to mean I’m going to be able to move forward and still play the game that I love,” he added.

McClenaghan, who missed the remaining two ODIs against Pakistan and has been ruled out of the ongoing series against Australia, has been named in the squad selected for the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 which is set to be held in India in March-April.

“My bag went straight to Auckland, so (the helmet) is sitting in the changing room, I haven’t even gone in and looked at it yet,” he said.

“It might be one of those things you put on your mantelpiece as a constant reminder of how much it hurt and also how lucky I am to be able to make a comeback and play this game again.

“I’ll be looking to try and make sure I get a helmet that fits properly and the same thing can’t happen again.”

New Zealand were reeling at 99 for 6 at one point in the Wellington ODI and the pacer, who walked out to bat at No. 10, smashed his way to a 18-ball 31, including three boundaries and two sixes, before being hit.

“The boys will tell you I’m pretty confident when it comes to throwing the willow around.”

“I love taking the attack to the guys who have bowled to me in the past, I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“I know it’s going to be hard. The brain works in funny ways in terms of letting you do these kind of things, but I’m pretty confident I’ll be able to overcome them,” he concluded.

Shah Rukh Khan: Rohit Shetty is romantic, I am an action guy

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, known as the ‘king of romance’, insists that he is more of an action guy.

However, the 50-year-old actor believes Bollywood filmmaker Rohit Shetty, known for his action movies, is a romantic person.

“I think Rohit Shetty, our director, is romantic. I am more like action (guy). I seem soft and sweet from outside but I am hard and tough from within. While with Rohit it seems he is different from out… Tough, but from within he is sweet … Soft person,” Shah Rukh told reporters here at the song launch event of his upcoming film Dilwale.

Shah Rukh and Kajol are back with yet another love song, Gerua from Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale which releases on December 18.

“The story is the inspiration behind romance. That song ‘Suraj Hua Madham’ we shot in the hot climate… In Egypt while this song ‘Gerua’ we shot in cold temperature in Iceland. I think it is about expression of love,” SRK said when asked about the similarities between the two songs.

The song Gerua was shot at various locations that looked exotic on screen. But Kajol reveals, “It was very challenging as we shot in Iceland…We were freezing.”

Sharing similar views, the Chennai Express star says, “It was difficult to shoot the song. It took two-three hours to set the song… Rohit Shetty, our director, wanted wider shot so we had helicopter to capture the moments.”

The event was held at Maratha Mandir, a theatre in Mumbai Central here, where SRK-Kajol’s blockbuster film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was running for over 1,000 weeks. The event saw actor Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon dancing to hit tracks of the legendary pair – “Suraj hua Madham”, “Tujhe dekha toh”, “Yeh Kaali Kaali Aakhen” and others.

Too close to reality? Here's why Rekha opted out of 'Fitoor'

Buzz is the real reason for Rekha’s exit from Abhishek Kapoor’s upcoming film ‘Fitoor’ is that her character was uncomfortably close to her own life

Abhishek Kapoor’s upcoming film, Fitoor may be a desi remake of Charles Dickens’ classic ‘Great Expectations’, but if gossip mills are to be believed, it also has bits of similarity with a Bollywood celebrity’s life. Guess who? Veteran actress Rekha, claim sources, adding that the uncanny resemblance to her own lifestory was precisely why she chose to walk out of the film when it was on the verge of completion.

While the makers had originally zeroed in on Rekha to essay the role of Begum, a reclusive woman who leads an enigmatic life, but is still spoken about for her relationships – it is inspired by Miss Havisham, the famous troublemaker from Dickens’ 1861 novel. However, after shooting for the film, including an outdoor stint in Kashmir, the actress decided to leave the project in May last year. Tabu was then roped in as a replacement and several scenes had to be reshot.

Says a source, “The character of Begum is akin to what Rekha is in real life. When she realised that, she found it difficult and uncomfortable to play herself and opted out of the film.”

Adds the source, “The similarities between Begum’s character and Rekha will be quite evident in the film’s first look (see cover). Begum has been depicted as a heartbreaker and a seductress, which are synonymous with Rekha who remains an enigma.”

When she decided to quit the project, there was speculation that Rekha and the makers of the film had creative differences. She and the director were apparently not on the same page on how the character should be etched, the reason why she preferred to walk out rather than have the audience find her story being played by herself on the big screen.

Tabu and the makers remained unavailable for comment

Film franchises seem to be Bollywood’s new cash machine www.ilovenewz.com

Bollywood filmmakers’ latest formula, albeit hackneyed, is to keep churning out film after film with the same basic plot to keep raking in moolah at the box office

The present-day blockbuster economy seems to be increasingly centered around branding, as a lot of importance is laid on developing films that have a built-in fan base. To put it simply, we are talking about the emergence of the franchise culture – a tried and tested formula in Hollywood. These days, major Hindi film projects are conceived with a franchise potential in mind. At times, before a film can hit theatres, its sequel is already in the works. And talking in terms of sheer numbers, it has indeed worked for Bollywood, right from ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Masti’ to ‘Golmaal’ and ‘Raaz’. The latest to join the club is ‘Hate Story’. The third instalment of the erotic thriller brand has crossed the Rs 40-crore mark in just a week, which is far more than what the first two films could collect in their lifetime run – ‘Hate Story’ starring Paoli Dam made Rs 15 crore, while part deux featuring Surveen Chawla, Jay Bhanushali and Sushant Singh earned Rs 28 crore. So, are franchises a guaranteed way of setting the box office coffers ringing?

Best of 2015: Top Bollywood films of the year

It was a mixed bag for Bollywood in 2015 where content-driven films found space while superstars-led movies earned big bucks, with the year ending on a high note after the success of Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer “Dilwale” and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Bajirao Mastani”.

‘Bajirao Mastani’

Stars were seen experimenting in the big budget format as Salman ditched his action-man image to play a simpleton in “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”. He had another hit in “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo”, which was big on nostalgia so was Shah Rukh’s box office outing “Dilwale”, whose promotions were centered around his iconic chemistry with Kajol.

‘Dilwale’

The unusual father-daughter chemistry of Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone in “Piku” was loved by the audience, Akshay Kumar’s thriller “Baby”, based on covet operations and S S Rajamouli’s epic historical film “Baahubali” too received appreciation from people. Ajay Devgn-starrer “Drishyam” was also a major success.

‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’

The year, however, truly belonged to Deepika as she had three back-to-back hits with “Piku”, “Tamasha” and “Bajirao Mastani”. Kangana Ranaut’s dual performance in “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” raked in big moolah at the box office but her second outing “Katti Batti” failed to replicate the success of her earlier release.

‘Piku’

Small budget movies like “NH10”, “Manjhi – The Mountain Man,” “Dum Laga Ke Haisha”, “Masaan”, “Titli” and “Angry Indian Goddesses” were lauded for their content. Chaitanya Tamhane’s Marathi film “Court” was one of the most appreciated films of the year. It won the National Award for the best picture and was also announced as India’s official entry to the 88th Annual Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Bollywood awards season: Deserving stars and films that were ignored

Our list of some praiseworthy performances that were surprisingly disregarded or not given due importance this awards season

When Sooraj Pancholi was given the Best Debutant – Male trophy at a popular awards function recently, it reopened the debate about awards functions being a big farce with near-zero credibility. Many felt that Masaan actor Vicky Kaushal deserved it much more than the star kid.

Award galas always make us wonder about the real definition of excellence and are dubbed as an ego-massaging exercise. Last month, Kangana Ranaut, who packed a punch in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, told hitlist that she wouldn’t attend any of those “commercial events” even if it meant going without an award for another year. And she didn’t get the Best Actress trophy in any of the functions although her double role act was award-worthy. Many other laudable performances and films were ignored too. Here’s our list of disappointing misses in the just-concluded awards season:

Salman Khan

They say you have to leave your brains at home to watch a Salman Khan movie. But with his touching performance in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, he proved his detractors wrong. The Kabir Khan directorial went on to become the highest grosser of 2015 and his best so far. But the tremendous buzz that it created did not match the number of awards it received.

Irrfan

While he was much appreciated for his ‘Piku’ act, and also for lending good support in the Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-starrer ‘Jazbaa’, his incredible and haunting performance in Anup Singh’s indie film ‘Qissa’ largely went unnoticed. Naturally, but sadly, there were no award for what was, arguably, his finest work till date.

Shashank Arora

The newbie, who played the titular role in Kanu Bahl’s indie film ‘Titli’, sadly missed out on nominations this year. His powerful act in the dark, neo-realistic film stole the limelight from his senior co-stars Ranvir Shorey and Amit Sial as he strived to break free from the shackles of his gory family and find his paradise. However, he was not feted for his brilliant debut.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui

His realistic act in ‘Manjhi: The Mountain Man’ garnered critical appreciation while his supporting role as journalist Chand Nawab in ‘Bajranji Bhaijaan’ won the hearts of many, but he hardly received awards this season.

Vicky Kaushal

He made an exceptionally impressive debut with his nuanced, convincing performance in Neeraj Ghaywan’s ‘Masaan’. He played Deepak, who belongs to a corpse-burner background but tries to rise above the restrictions of his community. Snubbing him at the awards season elicited a lot of criticism from various quarters.

‘Baahubali’

SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus, which was made on a humongous budget of nearly Rs 250 crore, impressed the audience, industry folk and critics alike. The visual effects made the movie watching experience even grander. It definitely deserved more awards than it was given.

Akshay Kumar

Director Neeraj Pandey got the best out of Akshay in ‘Baby’. His character as an Indian spy was refreshingly different from many of his action entertainers, but, the Khiladi did not receive many nominations or awards.

Imtiaz Ali

His last film, ‘Tamasha’ starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, was not a money-spinner, but he did manage to portray his efficiency as a director. His deft handling of the characters, especially Ved (Ranbir), who is torn between leading the life he wants and what society expects from him, was remarkable. Unfortunately, though, he wasn’t considered for any award by the ‘juries’.

Kangana Ranaut

Well, who would have done justice to the double role she played in Aanand L Rai’s successful film, ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’? She played a Haryanvi student-athlete Kusum and the quirky Tanu with equal ease. However, she did not rule the Bollywood awards season this year. Perhaps, due to her wont-attend-awards-shows stance?

Sonnalli Seygall's life changing experience

Sonnalli Seygall recently visited her hometown, Kolkata where she checked in at all the places in her ‘must-go-back-to’ list. She also got the chance to meet two extremely inspirational women, which left her heavy hearted.

The actress was introduced to two acid attack victims Reshma (22 years) & Paoli (40) from ASFI (Acid Survivors Foundation of India), a foundation that works recklessly to prevent acid burn violence as well as to provide support services to survivors. Sonnalli got the chance to meet them over lunch and spend some time as they shared their heart-rending story. Reshma a bread-owner of her family from Siliguri, was proposed by a man. Only because she chose to turn him down, is why her life has taken this miserable turn. `I was left so speechless listening to their life stories. After all that they have gone through, both Reshma & Paoli are so full of life. They have left an ever-lasting impression on me and the way I think.`

Having centres in Kolkata, Mumbai & Delhi, ASFI are channelising all their efforts for a better life of these acid survivors. Talking about the foundation, Sonnalli said, `They are doing an incredible job in getting about a change and generating public awareness. All we can do is educate people to eradicate acid violence from India through social, educational and regulatory measures.`

Sonnalli was in Kolkata for some personal work and was overwhelmed by the reception her latest film has received.

Bold and beautiful: Sizzling photos of Bollywood star kids

Gorgeous daughters of famous B-Town celebs seem to have no inhibition in flaunting their hot bodies and svelte figures. Many of them have, in fact, taken to Instagram to post their dazzling images recently. Have a peek.

Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter Navya Naveli certainly grabbed eyeballs by putting this smoking hot image of her in a bikini at a beach.

Jackie Shroff’s daughter Krishna posted this picture some time back, which became an instant hit.

Pooja Bedi’s ravishing daughter Aalia put this up on her account, which, for some inexplicable reason, was met with crude remarks. Aalia, mincing no words like, just like her mother, responded with a gem – “I am more just than my breasts.”

Khushi Kapoor, the younger daughter of Sridevi, also loves posting her candid pictures online. She too has had to face criticism, but doesn’t mind giving it back. This is what her recent post says, “I post my pictures because I feel good and confident. I put out these pictures not because I want to show off or try to be anyone or anything else.”

Sridevi’s elder daughter Jhanvi is also active on Instagram, and keeps posting varied kinds of images rather frequently.

Girish Kumar: Not anticipating any censor problem with 'Loveshhuda

Actor Girish Kumar says even though the premise of his upcoming film ‘Loveshhuda’ might look bold, he is not anticipating any trouble from the censor board.

The romantic-comedy, directed by Vaibhav Misra, follows the life of two youngsters, who have a one-night-stand. Earlier, the film’s teaser, with the tag line “a love story that starts in bed”, was reportedly given an ‘A’ certificate by the censor because of the word ‘bed’ in it.

When asked if the makers are anticipating any cuts from the censor, Girish told reporters, “Bold… Well it’s actually a very real life thing. We are just trying to be as real as possible. And I think we haven’t done anything in the film which the censor will object to. We have done justice to the film with the script we had in hand.” The 26-year-old actor spoke at the trailer launch of the film last evening.

Girish, who made his big screen debut in the 2013 Prabhudheva directed ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’, said he will be seen in a new look in ‘Loveshhuda’. “It’s every actor’s job to do justice to the character. The script written by Vaibhav had a lot of depth for the character. So a lot of it came from the script, even the styling.” The film marks the Bollywood debut of 2013 Miss India winner Navneet Kaur Dhillon.

The actress believes acting and walking the ramp are two completely different things. “Acting is a completely different field as compared to beauty pageants and ramp walk. So talent is very important. I always believed I am a born actress. But yes, both are two different things.”

When asked if ‘Loveshhuda’ bares any resemblance to films like ‘Hangover’ and ‘Ek main aur Ekk Tu’, Girish said, “The film is very real and that (one night stand) is just a layout. To generalise that is not really fair. When people will get to see the film they will realise it has more than that. “I hope it becomes a musical blockbuster. The team has worked really hard on the music. I owe it to all to them, they are masters.” ‘Loveshhuda’ releases on February 5.

Shahid's Japanese bonding!

The actor who is known to undergo rigorous prepping sessions for all his onscreen characters is doing the same for his upcoming next, Rangoon.

In addition to learning the language, Shahid has also begun conversing in the same with fellow co-stars and members of the crew who belong to the country.

The language led to the actor bonding instantly, which started off with initial greetings and exchange of pleasantries and soon led to fun filled conversations with the international crew members.

So much so that, Shahid has also developed a fondness towards Japanese cuisine.

His next, Rangoon which is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, is set against the backdrop of World War II and will feature the actor playing the role of an Indian Army officer in the film.

Jab they met on Sunday afternoon, it was at Mumbai Central station from where Tamasha co-stars Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor were taking the Suvidha Express to New Delhi, where they are promoting their film . The 12-hour journey was one typical of Indian Railways, full of conversations, chai and a 3 am platform moment at Kota Junction. For both actors, the journey was a novelty but in different ways. What happens in Corsica may or may not stay in Corsica, but what happens on a train in India definitely does not stay there. News agency ANI was onboard the Suvidha Express with Team Tamasha and discovered that Deepika, 29, was a train veteran but new to first class travel and Ranbir, born with the proverbial silver spoon into a leading Bollywood dynasty, had taken a train only once in his whole life and that was abroad.

Was Nimrat intimidated to work with Akki?

Actress Nimrat Kaur, who will be seen opposite Akshay Kumar in the forthcoming film “Airlift”, says she was intimidated to work with the action star.

“I was very intimidated to work with him before I met him. Naturally, anybody would be. But, it takes a few seconds. Then everything is so normal. We had a great time working in this film. I got to learn a lot from him.

“I am a one-film-old actress and for me, to get such a big film… I am really thankful to him,” Nimrat told reporters in a group interview.

Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, “Airlift” will hit the screens on January 22. The film is based on the evacuation of Indians based in Kuwait during the Iraq-Kuwait war.

“The material was very interesting which prompted me to sign this film. How I relate to the character was important for me. We have a genuine relationship in this film. It feels great to be a part of such a wonderful project,” she said.
