Living and working in the city, we feel emotional overloads and our nervous system is often tired and it suffers much more that our bodies. Physical activities for many people now, especially office workers, are not the part of the job but the way to relax.
Some people run, some go to a swimming pool or a gym, some works in their garden or garage. Don’t forget that your home can be another place for these rare but very useful physical activities.
What to do is your own choice. Some people like washing floors more, some enjoy ironing; some prefer bringing books in order, for example. Those, who don’t know it yet, may be inspires by the following things.
Close to nature
It is proved scientifically that people need organic environment around them, at least the elements of it. In other words, we feel better in the open. People, who live in the countryside, have some advantages in this matter. They can easily have some occupational therapy; even after work they can mow, dig or get out the snow. Living in a city apartment, such things are difficult to arrange, but still you can do something.
If you have plants, take care of them; it calms you down. Water them, make light soil, throw withered leaves away and clean other leaves from dust. Maybe some plants need to be transplanted but you always don’t have time for it. If you feel down, now is the time to do it.
What to choose?
Routine things that you do in your home every day will probably not be very helpful. As a home therapy against bad mood, better do something nontrivial, something that you always shelve.
If you want to do something calm and relaxing, wash a chandelier, bring your medicine chest in order throwing expired things away, put pictures in photo-frames, etc. If you are ready to do something bigger, redesign your place.
Theory and practice of small things
Seeing the results of your work is the main condition. Don’t start doing massing things when you are stressed. Don’t tear down your wallpapers hoping to hang the new ones by the evening and don’t start a thorough cleaning having only one hour to do everything. Give yourself some simple concrete tasks that you definitely have time and strength for.
For example, you can wash a microwave, clean a teapot from scale, bring your clothes in order, etc. You can do that easily and have your portion of satisfaction. It is important to stop in time so that you are not stuck in the endless things to do.
Sorting things and throwing some of them away requires some mental effort. If you are too tired, don’t start it. However, if there are some things that you’ve been wanting to throw away for a long time, do it now!
Beauty is important
Well, everything depends on your mood. Sometimes it is necessary to do something small like cleaning the mirrors so that they shine. Or you should concentrate on something aesthetic. If you feel depressed, cheer yourself up with some new décor. Buy flowers and put them in a vase. Change a tablecloth into something new and bright. Use a new counterpane or bedclothes. Such small things can actually bring joy.
For man there are some more constructive things: fixing faucets, switches or anything else broken, hanging shelves, hooks, etc. Anything that requires drilling is a perfect thing, as men love to drill.
Doing things around the house is great not only for your physical comfort, but also for your mental stability. Any labor is good for our emotional state, so find something for yourself and do it when you are down.
