When there is a fear for any religion , it provokes the hatred and end the humanity in an individual.
How important is a name to a terrorist group’s identity? When the militant organization Nusra Front announced recently that it was calling itself something else, analysts had good reason to be skeptical about whether the new label really did signal a genuine break from its parent organization al Qaeda. In fact, it probably doesn’t matter. Even if symbolic, the mere rebranding of Nusra could be enough to prolong Syria’s civil war.
You are a great Indian company doing great business that contributes to the GDP. In the agriculture sector, I have a suggestion that you could mull over. Instead of dealing with selling seeds, providing inputs etc., you can do a great job of creating farmer collectives and create a producer company with numerous farmers. Farmer’s lands can be professionally managed by installing a vibrant and professional team and create wealth for the Producer Company. This name is familiar undoubtedly and you will be wondering as to how to get small farmers into a collective! There are difficulties and I am trying various means to locate one for launching a professionally competent Producer Company. You have all the resources to make agriculture produces, market locally, export and possess an excellent Management wherewithal to conduct business successfully.
The advantage I see is that you will get to produce the crop you need to market either locally or export, farmers benefit by getting wages all their lives and in addition receive annual dividends. They will give their best productivity and this arrangement will not hinder getting farm labor, which is causality today. I see a win/win situation and most importantly, you can contribute to the PM’s vision of doubling farmer’s income by 2020. One successful venture will fire interest in many in the country.
My suggestion is that you could try one such example to evaluate its success. I am in the process of locating a suitable collective and if you can join hands to further, it can be worth a trial. I shall be just as a volunteer and have no monetary interest in making this suggestion.
Can I know your mind in this suggestion? My website, http://www.farmeremancipation.in will elucidate
He was a brilliant batsman, a canny off spinner and combined with his panther-like reflexes anywhere in the field, he was every captains dream – Dilshan you will be sorely missed! Thank you for all the memories, All the Best for your future!!

मेरी आँखों में आ छलके;
मेरा दिल चले थम के;
किसी के जख्म की टीसों पे ;
मेरी रूह तड़प जाये;
मेरी आह निकल जाये;
प्रभु ऐसे ही भावो से मेरे इस दिल को तुम भर दो;
मेरा खून जम जाये;
कदम उस ओर बढ़ जाये;
निवाला न निगल पाऊँ;
मैं लाठी ही बन जाऊं;
प्रभु ऐसे ही भावों से मेरे इस दिल को तुम भर दो;

An Indian had broken 2500 year-old record of Philippedes, the man who ran 42 kms without any aid and died, just to convey Greece won the battle of Marathon against Persia.
Today an Indian woman O. P. Jaisha ran the same distance without a drop of water @ 42°C to keep our nation’s pride.
But the bureaucratic hegemons in Athletics Federation of India didn’t even provide water and she almost died but her only aim was to complete the Marathon. Worst of all they made her coach a scapegoat and blamed her. How sadistic of them!!
As the man Philippedes himself quoted “We have won”. You are the HERO, #Jaisha.
Sorry for not knowing you. Sorry for not supporting you. Sorry for failing you. If it’s not for the viewership hungry media we’d have not known you at all. Ashamed of this.
As a Russian proverb goes ‘A fish rots from its head’. This is very true for the umpteen Nehruvian institutions.
World’s youngest Marathoner is an Indian boy Budhia @ 3 yrs. World’s eldest Marathoner is a Indian origin man Fauja Singh @100 yrs. The woman who broke 2500 year-old record is also Indian. I feel sad, angry, proud, shameful, all at the same time.
Drugs addiction is not a new problem for India but currently it is expanding at a huge pace. India is sharing its borders with Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh which has made involved India for drug trafficking. This terror is not only a terror which is being exported across the border but also it is a curse which is coming in Punjab by digging tunnels.
The respected current Prime Minister of India launched this scheme under the slogan ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ which soon gained massive publicity and attracted many. People got emotional and moved by this ‘abhiyaan’. The question is why this slogan had to be introduced? Why does the Government urge people to save the girl child? Many more such questions emerge in people’s mind. Many Government and Non-Government Organizations are running for the welfare of girl child.
Needless to say, there are still many states in India which kill the girl child in the mother’s womb. One of such states is Haryana. But there was one couple in the same state which saved their girl 23 years ago and named her ‘Sakshi Malik’. Who knew, this girl child would bring not only pride to her parents but to the whole nation.
In the Rio Olympic 2016 season, when the entire country was eyeing upon so many players to bring at least one medal, this Indian freestyle wrestler aggravated everyone’s expectation and turned the match in mere 10 seconds. Not only that she is the first player to bring home an Medal, but she is the first ever female wrestler to win an Olympic medal.
There is another such player named P V Sindhu, who has again brought broad smile on everyone’s lips in her home country. Kudos Girls!
Its mesmerizing to see that India is celebrating at the present and feeling proud because of its’ two ‘Betis’ (daughters) whose parents allowed them to come to this world and nurtured them without any differentiation.
The difference is not between a girl and a boy, it’s in the mind. The way one perceives things, would conduct accordingly. Let the child remain a child, not a boy or a girl and then see how better can a beti be! Let’s change the mindset and promote our girls to bring more name and fame to our country.
To IMPORTANT – VERY URGENT By Speed Post 11th August 2016.
The Inspector of Police (Law & Order), Thiruvanmiyur, *Near Marudeeswar Temple, CHENNAI-600041.
SUBJECT:- Harassment and Humiliation to senior citizen of 69 years, with geriatric diseases, living alone at M107-12, All owing to un-ethical practices of the Housing Society, though registered running to their whims and fancies, as the Housing Societies though registered by the Department of Registration, Govt. of T.N., by which the minorities suffer. Have already addressed the subject to them and as well as the Police Department, to be aware of the horrible consequences of prejudice, hate and discrimination that continue to threaten residents. Wish, we had preventive factor to all that is said! So that, honest innocent member of the housing society are not duped, deprived, disappointed, during modern-age of fast life.
WHO PERMITTED ?
· FLAT M107-18, OWNER MR. JAYARAMAN, HAD SECRETLY CONSTRUCTED ADDITIONAL REST-ROOM IN THE BALCONY OF HIS FLAT, TAKING “LAW INTO HIS OWN HANDS” CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE BALCONY BELOW OF FLAT M107-12,(Dr.P.K.Chandran), NEGLECTING TO EVEN SHOW CONCERN FOR THE DAMAGES CAUSED BY HIM.
· FLAT M 107-24, OWNER MR RAVICHANDRAN FOLLOWs TO TAKE “LAW INTO HIS OWN HANDS” BY ASKING A CIVIL CONTRACTOR TO REMOVE ALL THE DOORS OF HIS FLAT INCLUDING THE DOOR-FRAME OF THE DOORS, THEREBY NECESSITATING THE CUTTING OF THE CONCRETE PORTION OF THE WALL WITH POWER DRILLS AND CUTTERS. ALSO CUTTING THE WALLS ON THE EASTERN SIDE, TO REPLACE THE WINDOWS WITH THE FRAME, WITH ADDITIONAL WORK TO REMOVE THE EXISTING FLOORING TILES AND REPLACE WITH NEW HEAVY CERAMIC TILES. Please consider the magnitude of work on a building performed without prior sanction of the Local Administrative Authorities, when the residential building is over 45 years of age. It is pertinent from this feedback that a suitable / appropriate action is taken, ATLEAST after the exposure, for any INDIVIDUAL OWNER “not to undertake major repairs on such old buildings without prior permission and sanction, as such works on the third 3rd floor, adds to shock of impact-load, leading to considerable vibrations thereby cracks to the existing old building. * emanating considerable SOUND and DUST POLLUTION.
· GRAVE NUISANCE CAUSED TO THE SENIOR CITIZENs/sleeping infantsAND those on nightduty works in the building : since the NOISY SOUND and DUST POLLUTION are detrimental to general health. WHY such things to happen, neglecting local government authorities, when much said of senior citizen’s and child helpline ?
Authorities, of the POLICE, Chennai City Corporation, Pollution Control Board, NGO’s relevant to please view this issue, in the interest of Greater Chennai City.
Please note, I am constrained to bring it to the notice of the jurisdictional Police Station here again now, requesting for an F.I.R. / C.S.R., which you deem fit, to enable me to take the matter to the Court of Law, *if the matter could not be amicably and reasonably settled. All the conspiracy is owing to sadist Sri. Vasu Murari, who doesn’t like peace.(Flat Owner, M107-13 ), an Ex.BSNL employee added to Middle- East experience, doing Care-taker job of flats,to Flat- Owner’s living elsewhere, besides house-broker job and clinging to the Housing Society / Assoc. Secretary handling purchases etc., as known to me. WHO IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for the entire nuisance, commotion, by the biased services and politicized condition of the living complex. While the aims and objects of the Housing Society, is for the general well-being of all residents, by taking care of the common amenities, for a conducive living. Herein BN Prefab Flat Owners Association, 29th Cross Street. Housing Society maintained exclusively for ONLY pumping water into the over-head tanks and common lighting, but in the bargain neglects a few, with inefficiency causing discrimination and harm by damaging pipeline, causing interruption to the storage of water to my flat(M107-12), besides the terrace key is given to whom they like, hence not accessible, though the monthly maintenance charges collected are the same, from all the flat owners.
SERIES OF INCIDENTS THAT HAPPENED:- SINCE 2003. Letter addressed to Sri.Vasu Murari(said above);
· When self moved to M107-5, in 2003, YOU told me and Mr.Gopalamurthy M107-5&6, to move 5 feet behind, to reduce the frontage garden area, to accommodate four “2 wheelers”, on either side. With due respect and regards, self duly complied. But you spared Gopalamurthy from complying to the common request. It was only my time, effort and money that were wasted, for compliance.
· An act of sabotage by blocking the sewage, leading to flooding of sewage into my flat No.M107-5, Ground Floor. Well planned grievous-crime, for my exposing Vasu Murari, the middle man, who foolishly drained society’s revenue, by dumping scrap of Cuddapah cover for the water-tanks of M107 Block, as purchased.
· Arranged to drop a snake, to be left in the portion between my main door and the grille-door and calling me, informing a snake noticed. Self came out and noticed the same, and got rid of it, by calling a garden labor.
· Arranging intermittent murky water into my overhead tank for supply, and also damaging pipeline, giving me trouble while staying alone. Harassment/Humiliation.
· Dr.Elizabeth(M107-10) during her time in the Executive Council of our Assoc. selfishly, and unfairly made a bore and pump for her personal use. Misuse and abuse as Committee Member. Till today, driver uses for water-wash and cleaning their Maruthi Car and scooter, which formed a precedence, not stopped or questioned, later on, a connection made to their flat number ’10’with variation in the size of pipes connecting to filling. While no provision for isolation, extra water charged to my family indiscriminately to the extent of IRS 3000/-plus by Mrs & Mr.Palaniappan showing street-smartness, which was unfair, while they are not real owners.
· While self-living alone in M107-5, objection was raised for watering the plants Association issued circular not to overload the motor by gardening use of water WHEN operator pumps the water to the overhead tanks. While many other members were even misusing all means, having a key in their hands. No objection made when Mr.Gopalamurthy continues to water the plants in the frontage of his house, till todate. The need for uniformity and fair practice.
· Illegal construction of a rest-room over the balcony of mine in the first floor and on my reporting the same in the enforcement cell of Zone 13, CCC Adyar, they not taking heed to warn the flat owner miscreants of the second floor, Sri.jayaraman(M107-18), who has rented out from inception, as he is staying in Kelly’s, to attract more revenue as rent for the additional rest room facilities, violated without obtaining prior permission, with the result leaks and cracks appearing below, in the balcony of my flat(M107-12),which resulted in dirty sewage leaks sweeping over the walls of my balcony. The enforcement cell been enticed by the owner of flat number 18, alongwith the middle man Vasu Murari, thereby neglecting and discrimination in public services under Zone 13 administration. Hence self reported the matter to the jurisdictional Thiruvanmiyur Police Station and as an acknowledgement obtained a CSR No.303:2015 dated the 13th April 2015, 1130 hrs. Party not warned nor penalized for illegal act, overloading the permanent structure.
· Therefore, there are so many deviations around in 144 flats of Prefab Flats. Despite , Mr.Paul Joseph collected all men and women around and trying to gherao me, while self going for lunch on 8th Feb.2016. When I told him, if he is a qualified engineer with good back-ground, he should have some basic ethics to come and speak to me in my residence on the first floor. While, self-was with my family in M107-5, he entered my house once with fresh fish from the market when I asked him to leave the raw fish in his house and come to speak, so manner less guy. All this, Mr.Paul Joseph your good friend, and the members assembled questioning as to what the tenants of mine (Flat No.5) doing, on occupying as though for a barbeque in the frontage of the flat. It is high time to look into consolidative needs, without bias and prejudice. All the deviations made to the selfish gain of few members, all these years but for uniformity and peaceful congenial-living.
YOU MUST BE VERY MUCH AWARE, THAT UNDER Sec. 8 of the Apartment Owner ship Act, 1994:-
· Prohibits the Apartment Owner, by doing any work or putting the Apartment for other use, which would jeopardize the soundness OR the safety of the property and reduce the value thereof or impair any easement of heridament annexed to the apartment. If any material structure is to be added or excavated, any additional basement , it requires unanimous consent of the other apartment owners.
· The Flat/Apartments Owners Society, under Sec.12, is to maintain the common areas and facilities as necessary fairly and uniformly without any neglect or discrimination, while the stairs and terrace of our side portion is neglected for sweeping / water wash as done to the other part of the same block, since almost all the owners are staying outside/elsewhere , since on their renting it out. Besides, Mrs. And Mr. Gopalamurthy (M107-6), leaves to his son’s place in Singapore/Hong Kong, on 6 month visa, and Mrs. & Mr.Ramachandran also leaves to Bangalore and New Delhi frequently. Hence, hardly owners stay this side. Housing Society Committee Members therefore neglects service rendered to this area of the Housing Block. Hence the biased service facilities within, all such activities prevailing because of the unofficial caretaker service rendered by Mr.Vasu Murari (M107-13), for the owners staying elsewhere and for the extra bore used by M107-10, during the time Mrs. Elizabeth were in the managing committee, going continuously with preferential treatment for Car Wash and extra water exclusively for Flat No. 10, though a known violation. With the result several deviations.
SEWAGE was flooded into my then residence(M107-5) as a sabotage by Sri. Vasu Murari and the exterior of the flats and thus lived in a most hygienic condition until the TWAD came into rescue after my submission of evidence, substantial proof by images submitted to the department by way of recorded C. D. Your Corpn. Engineers including Enforcement Section, are fully aware of the same, but for case of neglect and discrimination.
Secondly, since last three years considerable leakages from the top balcony of Flat No.18 appeared, draining from the illegally erected toilet and bath(Rest Room). Mr. Murthy , A.E. called and said that he has asked the upper flat to stop using the said toilet and Bath. He also said that the walls will be scraped of the dirty fouling sewage that seeped into BUT same never done, suspected because of the middle man said above who is the caretaker for others flat-owners, staying elsewhere. Though the jurisdictional Police Station reported and CSR moved for action, the party unmoved tilldate, in the bargain my costly washing machine’ IFB ‘in my balcony, faced premature failures, all owing to the acidic liquid taking access into my area. Efforts not made to neither warn, nor penalize, to curb such violations. A visit would convince, the facts of reality.
Though suggested, to plant only flower-plants but for many banana trees and large trees and the branches and twigs causes nuisance for squirrels/rats and insects gaining entry into my first floor flat. Southern side pruning not done as yet, despite several requests, going all in vain.
Earlier REFUSE Bin Points, were distributed in different areas i.e on either side of the broad 29th Cross and as well as in 30th Cross Street, BUT ALL THE REFUSE NOW DUMPED in 29th Cross Street * i.e. in between 29th & 30th Cross Street, side of the Childrens Park. w/Health Hazards, where vehicles are diverted during week-ends.
· Un-friendly public service that prevails indiscriminately, all in a selfish manner, nullifies the object of the Housing Society, being a registered body, since not properly regulated.
The imperative need for periodical checks for WATER in over-head tanks for “Health and Hygiene” and also for CHECKs to mischief’s by miscreants in damaging the pipelines, leading to the flats, disturbing intermittently with bottleneck in service etc. creating self-importance, stating due to unavoidable circumstance. No efforts taken despite of ‘ repetitive nature ‘.
Can a residential member approach consumer forum for redressing his grievance?
Yes. Housing is covered under the term “Service” in the Consumer Protection Act, 1986(the CPA 1986). Therefore the services rendered to the members by the Housing Society falls within the purview of the CPA 1986. Further, the provisions of the CPA 1986, are in addition to and not in derogation of any provisions contained in any other Act, this means that the provisions of the CPA are additional remedial avenues provided to consumers by the Parliament of India.
In view of the above, any dispute with a Housing Society, by any member with respect to rendering any services such as allotment of house, possession of house, rendering maintenance services in relation to housing complex etc. are covered by the CPA 1986, and a member can approach the Consumer Forums, for claiming compensation and damages against the housing society for rendering deficient-services. The Supreme Court has held in the case of Secretary, Thirumurugan Cooperative Agricultural Credit Society v. M.Lalitha, (2004) 10 CLA-BL Supp thata member can approach consumer forum as a consumer to redress his grievance against a cooperative society. Housing Society primarily being a Cooperative Society this judgment is applicable to Cooperative Housing Society also.
· All elected members of the managing committee of societies are required to execute a bond holding them “jointly and severally” responsible for all the decisions the committee takes, whereby elected members of managing committees, have to declare they are jointly and severally responsible for all the acts and omissions detrimental to the interests of the society. “Lack of professionalism, transparency, insider/connected borrowing –saree, chit business etc. within and political interference, are the bane of co-operative housing societies. The new measure should deter managing committee members from taking arbitrary decisions, as it is not based on specific merit needs nor they consider to check-up with their relevant qualified members, for reasons better known to your good self in handling many such allied cases. Could prove to be the proverbial double-edged sword. Which makes, each member personally liable. For example, even if an executable decision is taken on merits, an error of judgment cannot be ruled out but minimized to the bare minimum. So documentation is very vital during the tenure of a member goes bad, he will be liable for it, even if he ceases to be a member of the managing committee. Residents of co-operative housing societies, who normally are reluctant to take up the honorary responsibility of looking after the affairs of the society, are expected not to join managing committees. One to be morally responsible for what they do or perform when they undertake any assignment, whether remunerative or honorary.

Having perused the subject notice for selection of Graduate Engineer Trainees in Air India Engineering Services Limited(AIESL), it is my earnest wish to offer my candidature for the same. However the stipulated qualification requirements perplexes me and many of the Aeronautical Engineering Graduates from the Universities in India.
First of all we fail to understand the importance of GATE SCORE in this Selection Process. If an Engineering Graduate has cleared all his semesterexaminations with no arrears and has good academic score of Grade Point Average of over 7 to 8, he is considered for jobs in any Engineering Organization. Generally the students appear for GATE Examination to go for Higher Studies and Research Field. At no point during our studies we realized that for jobs for General Engineering Jobs that too in our selected Domain requires GATE Qualification for getting Employed. For clarity I wish to state that there is no GATE Examination for AERONAUTICAL Engineering; the examination is being conducted for AEROSPACE ENGINEERING. Students who aspire for Higher studies only appear for GATE Exam. If we were aware that the Employment Criteria for Aviation Jobs included GATE SCORE, we would have tried to go for GATE COACHING like others. Now that at this juncture, when we are seeking for entry for jobs, if we are suddenly asked to get the GATE SCORE, it is a Denial of Opportunity for no fault of us.
I dream of an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s job, but by this employment notice my ambition is getting shattered. As what we understand, the 4 year Aeronautical Engineering Graduation course make us comprehensively understand the Aircraft Design and System Technology, where as all other Engineering Graduates are not even given rudimentary knowledge of Aviation. By this open category recruitment, we Aeronautical Engineering Graduates feel that we are being ignored and considered secondary for even submitting an Application for a Job in Aviation.
By this I seek the Air India Management, Civil Aviation Ministry, and Human Resources Ministry shall take note of this injustice and give us an opportunity to compete with others in competing for a specialist job in Aviation.
With Highest Regards to the AIESL and Air India Management
I seek your direction.
Thanking all concerned

Punjabi ‘phere’ or 4 ‘laava’ as called, is more a superstitious belief than what is taught to Sikhs by the great philosopher, Guru, teacher and Sant of all times.
Nowadays, people have created a myth and false fear in community that these 4 ‘laava’ should be performed before noon, as after that hour is inauspicious . Besides, this uneducated and contrary to Guru’s teachings belief is making the young generation dislike and gradually not follow it. The kids nowadays are questioning on this issue. They are wondering how Punjabi religion is the only one enforcing this time law, not any other religion.
Even after forcing this on children, marriages are failing and married life is a disaster. Married couples are separating, divorcing. They are unhappy with their families forcing this on them. This is a huge problem in Canada, USA and UK now. First, a marriage function lasts no less than a week. Then, the night before the wedding, family will have a ge together that usually will last past midnight. This is so stressing on the to be married couple.
Our families are just thinking of themselves, their own created marriage system. They should realize this day is their child’s special day. It is for them, of their own future to come, a special day they want to cherish with soft and beautiful memories forever.
Not wake up in the morning at 4am and be so stressed and have dark circles and puffy eyes, and have eyebags. No doubt make up will cover all this, but is the new bride to be enjoying this? Has anyone ever asked her what she wants? Has family ever discussed things with children? No!. They just do what they are told.
Then these children are complaining how their ‘gora’ friends get married. It’s all about the couple to be. Educate the couple, tell them family values, teach them the marriage sanctity, the teachings passed on to us by our great Guru, Guru Nanak Devji.
I feel this belief is not taking our Sikh community anywhere. This bogus uneducated and false belief of marrying before noon is not a marriage saviour. It is a false notion.
I believe a couple to wed should talk to a local priest about mariied life, their parents should sit with children to explain the purity of it.
Love for anything is good but obsession is always harmful. With the advancement of technology and craze for mobile inspired the web developers to introduce a device on mobile called ‘front camera’ which allows people to click themselves.
It’s not required to describe the benefit of such camera as even a child knows how to operate it especially on a mobile and the best part is that that you don’t have to be dependent on others to click yourself. This feature on the mobile or camera fancies people to click themselves anywhere and everywhere.
Lately, we get to hear about many accidents occurring because of Selfie craze. It is bizarre to learn that you love yourself so much that you click selfie but you are so careless about yourself that you don’t realize the death trap arising out of it. Getting mesmerized by the beauty of nature like hill stations, mountains, lakes, fountains, or man-made beauty like palaces, forts, monuments, etc. and the wish to capture those moments is a natural phenomena. But endangering your life for such craze is not advisable at any cost.
Electronic devices are meant to simplify people’s life not create threat to life. But unfortunately, we take everything for granted almost everything and above all, our own life. Call it a trend, fashion or competition, now-a-days, everyone likes to pose, click and post on the social media. They want to stay connected with the friends and relatives, and the desire to share what they do inspires them to capture every moment and post on social media.
Nobody is against any trend or habit, after all it’s a democratic country and we are free to choose our activities, but we have to be very sensible and careful especially conscious while we are in public places.
My own way of paying respect to Tagore.
Deity Of The Ruined Temple
Santiniketan, the abode of peace, which is devoted to realization of different aspects of truth from diverse point of views, was perhaps not prepared to face this bizarre truth of a 10-year-old girl forced to lick her own urine as punishment for bedwetting. The universal knowledge centre Visva-Bharati that was conceived by Kobiguru to provide coordinated study of different culture is to-day accused of defending a weird culture that could be appreciated only by a very few godly souls like Swami Agnibesh. The God within the innocent girl of Patha Bhavan died when the hostel warden Ms. Uma Poddar tried the medieval cure on her. Patha-Bhavana, the brainchild of Tagore, was established to stimulating and sustaining the manifold faculties of human personality beyond the accepted limits of intellectual and academic pursuits. The underlying philosophy behind such idea with no stretch of imagination can accommodate the concept of a punishment that exceeds the customary limit of tolerance of any ordinary people.
Evidently, people have forgotten Tagore’s concept. His works have become commodities – traded freely for the purpose of materialistic profit only. People are earning their living by capitalizing on Tagore’s tag. The values, which Tagore had stood for, are far behind us. His message is not touching the soul of our hearts. We have become mindless to the nuances of life, which he had dreamt. The high pitch loudspeaker installed at roadside lampposts playing Tagore’s song in full blast in a hot humid noon announcing festivities of community “Puja” cannot spread his idea. In the early hours of a holiday morning, when people struggle to catch up with sleep, having their ears assaulted even by Tagore’s songs or poems through a loudspeaker publicizing some public events spread a wrong message. Under similar attack, Tagore himself would have been apologetic for his splendid works. However, people of Bengal have become accustomed to witness such offerings of reverence to Tagore in a fashion that actually betrays an arrogant show of respect. The long lasting impression the lyrics can create, if played in a serene environment, gets lost in such routine outburst and becomes a regular source of revulsion to many. Nevertheless, people are oblivious of others’ feelings!
Reports of unpleasant incidents like theft of Tagore’s Nobel medallion in March 2004, molestation of an American student at Kalo Bhavan in February 2008, fortnight long strike demanding an investigation into ‘irregularities’ committed by vice-chancellor in 2010 and many more untoward incidents still haunt public memory. People are now witness to a tragic “reality-serial” that started with a folly – compelling a budding soul to lick her own urine. The episodes of ridiculing the parents with police arrest and thereafter the show of bias by the university authorities followed back to back. The next two episodes displayed insensitivity of the persons in power with delay of 72 hours in enquiring about the wellbeing of the victim and then the expression of regret 5 days after the incident that culminated with a “punch-line” by publicly naming the tormented child, violating section 21 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000.
The society is yet to come to grips whether to dismiss the happening as stray one or to debate whether Visva-Bharati authorities have strayed. “We Bengalis are too sensitive about Santiniketan and expect it to remain an oasis of high values when the world around is in a state of degeneration and collapse.” A senior teacher reportedly told in defence. May be the torchbearers of Tagore’s legacy are yet to realize that glow of light turns more prominent as darkness becomes more pronounced. Perhaps Tagore’s anguished expression “There is lamp but never a flicker of flame” in Gitanjali (Poem 27) describes the contemporary situation better. Today, his teachings have become more relevant to liberate the society.
In his Nobel Prize acceptance speech Tagore had said, “My object in starting this institution was to give the children of men full freedom of joy, of life and of communion with nature. I myself had suffered when I was young through the impediments which were inflicted upon most boys while they attended school and I have had to go through the machine of education which crushes the joy and freedom of life for which children have such insatiable thirst.” Are we not witnessing today the manifestation of a culture in Visva-Bharati that is exactly opposite to Tagore’s dream?
In another paragraph of the same speech, Tagore had mentioned “…. this university should be a place where Western students might come and meet their Eastern brethren and where they might work together and try to find the treasures that have lain hidden in the East for centuries and work out the spiritual resources of the East, which are necessary for all Humanity.” Can we tell it to the world today, as uttered by a SENIOR teacher, not to “expect it (Visva-Bharati) to remain an oasis of high values when the world around is in a state of degeneration and collapse”? Should we announce that the “Eastern brethren” have failed Tagore?
When the custodians of Tagore’s dream falter in their task of protecting the poet’s precious collections, others in Bengal cannot be expected to do better. Common people always look up to the intellectuals to show the right path. That is the reason why the parents had left their 10-year-old girl in the custody of Visva-Bharati with hope that the child would be moulded in the vision of Tagore. However, the manner in which the authorities have failed the child is inexplicable. The ruthless act has attacked the inherent idea behind starting the institution and the bias has shaken its foundation. The “God” within the innocent girl was murdered at Patha Bhavan, her dream was shattered in the Tagore’s dream house and she had to go back home carrying a nightmare. The poor child will never return to Visva-Bharati – “where the whole world forms its one single nest” – even as a day boarder, because she is too afraid! To-day, she is searching a shelter “Where the mind is without fear and head is held high; where knowledge is free”.
A fantasy called Kashmir
People are talking of referendum to resolve the Kashmir crisis once and for all. Do they know India’s experience was referendum? What price the country and its people had to pay for the farce? Let us recall – in 1947, how almost all of erstwhile Hindu majority Sylhet District of Assam became a part East Pakistan, now Bangladesh – following a referendum! The real dirty politics behind that exercise is not known to many. The Pakistani authorities wanted that part of the prosperous land for themselves and the political authorities in Assam did not want this thickly populated Bengali dominated district to be a part of Assam lest the Assamese people would loose their majority status. In that political push – pull situation, the inevitable manipulation took place. Barring the (then) Karimganj sub division which was incorporated into the Indian state of Assam, India lost the major portion to Pakistan forcing thousands of Bengali Hindus to flee their homeland and take refuge in India. Their suffering still continues. How can India forget that mass human tragedy? It will be even worse if the proposed solution of another referendum to resolve the Kashmir crisis is accepted. On the other hand, let us recall how Goa, Hydrabad and Pondichery had become part of India. Such no-nonsense approach must be adopted towards Kashmir. The continuing plight of the displaced Kashmiri Pundits must also be addressed.
Let us not be misled by the fact that Burhan Wani’s funeral attracted thousands. It was not spontaneous. We have seen how “spontaneous” strikes are “arranged” in our country. There is no spontaneity. Today, anyone who looked pro-India is a suspect and eligible for elimination in Kashmir. Let us not be misled by the gruesome pictures of youths with eye injury flooding the social media. The youths are not voluntarily participating in the demonstrations to act as a shield to the separatists’ violent protests. They have no choice – they are being brainwashed and forced by the enemy of our country and Pakistani agents. Let us not be deceived by the news that father of slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani has emerged as the rallying face of protests in the Valley. Had it been his voluntary action, he would have come forward immediately after death of his son – not after a gap of all these days. It is obvious that he has been tricked and forced by the same miscreants who are behind the disturbances in Kashmir.
We have been blowing hot and cold with the Kashmir issue for too long and had been asking the Kashmiris from time to time “what they want”. It was a blunder to allow them special privilege and follow a soft approach. Our appeasement policy towards the separatists and conciliatory strategy towards Pakistan for last seventy years have landed us on the ongoing trauma of Kashmir – which we are staring at today. The day of cajoling is over now.
When your house is on fire, you do not sit down to analyze the cause but rush to the nearest fire extinguishers. When anti India / pro Pakistan / Jehadi slogans are raised from the loudspeakers atop Mosques in Indian soil, it is nothing but invasion to our secular democracy. We must liberate that part of our country from the foreigners and their agents, with all our might. Once we do that, we may think of finding out from the Kashmiris “what they really want”. Once peace is restored, we may take steps “to win the hearts of the people of the state” as the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad’s open letter to the Prime Minister reads. But, not now when a Kashmiri Muslim cannot dare to call himself an Indian in Kashmir lest he would be killed.
There was a time when parents used to give maximum protection to their children and would not allow them to go to the park or any place which let the child get exposed to soil, dirt, garbage, etc. Some gave hygiene reasons and some wanted to protect the children from direct heat, dust, etc. to save them from viral, sneezing, cold cough, etc.
But are we actually able to save them? This weird mindset of parents made our children turn into a loner. The children of today tend to spend maximum time on net, TV, mobile, etc. They tend to avoid crowd, not like talking much or mingling with people, which in away may lower their self confidence and adaptability.
This is the reason, the parents now want to learn from mothers and mothers-in-law, the way they brought up their children. Just a little bit of casual approach but overseeing the children would help them develop acceptability of others and themselves. Let the children touch the dirt, soil, plants, grass. Let them fall in the park and get up themselves. Let the talk to strangers but watch them diligently. Let them grow themselves so that they can differentiate between the good and the bad.
Surely, parents feel good to see their children happy and these activities would make the children self reliant and confident. Make a regular visit to the local park, shops, stores, etc. Parents should also develop these habits and shouldn’t just perform the formality of visiting the park. See the children smile and feel happy.
Considering that the Lankan first innings ended at a meagre 117 followed by 203 by Australia in their first dig and Lanka managed 177 (without Mendis’s contribution of 176) and finally Australia in the last innings who were bowled out for just 161 – Kusal’s 176 stands out like a beacon amidst havoc all around.
AKBAR’S CHILDREN AND THEIR MOTHER’S
The fact about the mothers of Akbar’s children is not given in the chronicles of Akbar’s reign like Akbarnama,Tabaqat I Akbari,Darbari I Akbari,Muntakhab Ut Tawarikh,Father Monserrate account on Akbar and Akbar and the Jesuits.
Blochmann in Ain i Akbari had given an account of it.
The mother’s identity has been given in Jahangir’s Autobiography-JAHANGIRNAMA.(Tuzuki I Jahangiri)
There is no evidence about the mother’s identity in Shahjahan’s or Aurangazeb’s chronicle.
Prince SALIM(Emperor Jahangir): First surviving son of Emperor Akbar.
Jahangir’s mother was Mariam Zamani, the daughter of Raja Bharmal of Amber. He was born on 31st August,1569.As a custom Akbar went to meet infant Salim after a long delay.
The mother of Salim to be Raja Bharmal’s daughter was recorded only in one book of the mughal era. That book is Khulasat-ut-Tawarikh, written by a Punjab Historian Sujan Rai Bandar, during Aurangazeb’s reign in 1695.He had written about the history of Hindustan,in which Mughal history was just a part of the book.Sujan Rai mentions in his book that the Amber princess ,the third wife of Akbar was Salim’s mother.First of all Amber princess was the fourth wife.He had missed the second wife who was the granddaughter of Munim khan whose wedding was celebrated in 1557.He had missed it because he was not in the Mughal court. No other historical chronicle of Akbar or Jahangir had given the identity of Salim’s mother.Jahangir refers his mother as Mariam Zamani in his memoir and does not gives her identity. He mention Raja Bharmal’s daughter to be a lady in his fathers harem. He does not mention Rajabharmal’s family members as his mothers relation. The Rajput chronicle is silent about it.Akbarnama mentions about the Jaisalmer princess, wife of Akbar giving birth to a girl baby and passing away in 1 year, but is silent about Amber princess giving birth to Salim.Since Sujan Rai,a historian during Mughal era had documented that Raja Bharmals daughter was Salims mother we will bow to it .
Mariam zamani died in 1623 as documented in Jahangirnama
She was born through a concubine. She was born on 21st November 1569.The kid was handed over to Mariyam Makani- Akbars mother as she was an elderly person and could take better care of the kid than a concubine. One more fact behind this decision of Akbar is,Mariam Makani had lost her two daughters(Akbars own sisters) when she travelled from Kabul to India. The girls were within 10 years.May be based on it Akbar had handed over his daughter to Mariyam makani.
Khanam’s mother died during Akbar’s reign in 1599.
He was born through a concubine. He was born on june 7th 1570.He passed away at the age of 30 years.
Akbar celebrated the birth of both Salim and Murad in the same way so that Murad does not get a feeling that he was born through a concubine.
Prince Murad born to Salima sultana begum was given only by the historian Vincent who had written the book in the 18th century after the mughal era.Vincents book concentrates more on Akbar’s acheivements rather than his personal life.No historical chronicle of Mughal era says Murad was born to Salima. This shows future historians can do mistakes ,so it is better we follow historical chronicles.
He was born through a concubine on september 9,1572.He was left under the care of Raja Bharmal for a period of 6 months. When Akbar went for the conquest of Gujarat he took his pregnant wife with him.Since she came near child birth and could not withstand the journey,Akbar left her in saint Daniyals house in Ajmere and went to Gujarat with his harem. In the saint house Daniyal was born. After one month Akbar send his son to Amber which was nearest to Ajmere. Daniyal was left under the care of Raja Bharmals wife who was an elderly person. This Akbar did for his sons safety and also to honour RajaBharmal. He picked up Daniyal after 6 months when he went to Agra.
Daniyals mother died in 1596 as documented in Akbarnama
There are also historical records that Daniyals mother could be the legendary Anarkali. The first historical mention of Anarkali was found in the travelogue of the British tourist and trader William Finch, who came to Lahore during 1608 to 1611.According to Finch’s account Anarkali was one of the wives of emperor Akbar and mother of his son Daniyal sha.Akbar developed suspicion that Anarkali had incestuous relationship with Prince Salim(Jahangir) upon which he entombed her within a wall of his palace where she died.Jahangir as a token of love ordered a magnificent tomb built for her.Edward Terry who visited a year after William Finch writes that Akbar had threatened to disinherit Jahangir, for his liaison with Anarkali, the emperors most beloved wife. But on his death bed Akbar repealed it( Early Travel in India, 1583-1619.Page no 166,330.)
But the account of the British traveller is falsified when one comes to know that Daniyal’s mother died in 1596 which does not match the dates inscribed on the sarcophagus that is 1599.
Shahzadah SHAKRU-UN-NISSA begum:
Her mothers name was Beiby Daulat begum.
Shahzadah ARAM BANU BEGAM:
She was born to the same Beiby Daulat begum. She was born on 22 december,1584
The account of his last two daughters is given in Jahanginama and Ain I Akbari.Historical chronicles are clear about it and all of them coincide.(This wife seem to be Akbar’s favourite for two daughter are born through her and when Akbar was 42.)
Wheeler M Thackston had also translated Jahangirnama, his version is same as Tuzuki i Jhangiri.
in that he has documented that Shahzadah Khanam,Prince Murad,Prince Daniyal was born through concubine and Beiby Daulat begum was the mother of Shakru un nissa and Arum banu begum.
AUTHENTICITY OF TUZUKI I JAHANGIRI
Jahangir wrote his autobiography himself. Once he wrote the first 12 years ,he made several copies. He gave the first copy to Shahjahan.Few copies of it had been traced after 300 years,in which Tuzuki is the authentic version. The copies that has been traced were translated.
The Tuzuki I Jahangiri is the authentic version of Jahangirnama proved by the historians.Tuzuki was first translated from the edition of Sayaid Ahmad by Roger and then edited and released by Henry Bevridge.Henry bevridge has edited Tuzuki using two excellent manuscript. One manuscript was from the British museum translated by Willim Irisine which was a very excellent and good version. The other one was in India and this was also an excellent version The events Jahangir had written in Tuzuki coincides with the events written by Foreign travelers in their book. These travelers were there in Jahangir’s court. The details about the kids of Akbar’sand Jahangir’s is the same in both Tuzuki i Jahangiri and Akbarnama proving Tuzuki to be the authentic version. The mothers identity alone is not given in Akbarnama but it is given in Tuzuki ,all the other details of both the book ,regarding the kids matches.
There was one more version of Jahangirnama first identified which was translated by David price. That version had been proved to be the unauthentic version, manipulated by Nurjahan for the sake of her son in law Sharyar who was born through a concubine. In order to hide her son in laws parentage that version has been tampered. Wherever Jahangir had mentioned concubine names of ladies were given. That version also gives a lot of praises of Nurjahan and her family.Historians have clearly proved Tuzuki to be the authentic version and David price version to be unauthentic one .
Disclaimer:The information is from historical chronicles of Akbar’s and Jahangir’s reign i.e from 15th and 16th century historical chronicle and not from books written by later historians with fiction or by my own imagination or my own interpretation of lines of historical chronicles. People can go through historical books like Jahangirnama and Akbarnama and Ain i Akbari which are available in the net.
Prince Daniyals mother was not Mariam zamani (MUZ):
The first important evidence is Daniyals mother died in 1596 as documented in Akbarnama while MUZ died in 1623 as in Jahangirnama.
Prince Daniyals mother was a royal concubine of Emperor. It is documented in Tuzuki i jahangiri.
I will now write in this article, regarding the rumour that has been spread in the net that Muz was the mother of Daniyal. The rumour was spread after the Jodha Akbar love story. There is no point in discussing about it ones we know the fact that Daniyal’s mother died in 1596.But in spite of it I would like to discuss about the rumour and give explanation about it.
1. Daniyal was sent to Amber,so could he be Muz son.
Sending Daniyal to Amber was only said as a point for MUZ to be Daniyals mother.First they should go through few chapters in Akbarnama. When Akbar was travelling to Gujarat for conquering it,he took Daniyals mother with him.On the way she couldn’t endure the journey because she was near child birth, so Akbar located the auspicious house of saint Daniyal in Ajmere and left her there and went to Gujarat.Near palodi he got the news that a son was born.He issued an order that after one month, when the kid was big enough to travel, responsible persons should convey them to Amber which was a safe place for his son and also nearest, so easy to travel. The other royal families which had alliance with him like Bikaner and Jaiselmar was far away from Ajmere. After 6 months Akbar on his way back to Agra halted in Ajmere, sent his commanders to pick up Daniyal and once his son joined him he went to Agra.At the same time Raja Bharmals daughter who was in Akbar’s harem during Gujarat conquest was sent from Ajmere to Amber to take part in the condolence of her brother Bupat. This is another evidence MUZ was not Daniyals mother.
In David price version which is said to be the unauthentic version of Jahangir’s autobiography,it is given that Daniyal was left in Rajabharmals care, but the time period is not mentioned. The details are elaborated in Akbarnama.People can go through both the books which are vey much in the net.
Akbar when he started from Agra,he did not have any idea in dropping Daniyals mother in Amber, for if he intented he could have dropped her on his way to Ajmere for Amber is before Ajmere. So definetly Akbar had some other idea.Initially he did not have an idea to have the delivery in saint Daniyals house, all of a sudden the decision was taken. His other allied kingdom like Jaisalmer and Bikaner are quite far away, for a infant to withstand the journey.
We can also interpret Akbar sending Daniyal to Amber in a different way.People know Bairam khans rebellion against Akbar. In the middle of the rebellion one of Bairam Khans relative Husain Quli Beg fell into the hands of Akbar.Akbar was in a hurry to go to Punjab to chase Bairam khan.Akbar always had good opinion on Hasan though he was in Bairam khans side.He made over Hasan to Adham khan before leaving because he considered Adham khan to be an arch rivalry of Hasan. In this way Adham was held responsible if anything happens to Hasan.Adham Khan took good care of Hasan who in future devoloped to be a trustworthy commander of Akbar.Similarly Akbar should have thought Amber being closest to Ajmere could be a threat for his son as Daniyal was a contenter to the throne against Salim. Moreover Raja Bharmals daughter was with him when he went to Gujarat. So when his son was left in the care of that family they will be held responsible.Raja Bharmal just to protect his kingdom he married his daughter to Akbar,so he will definetly not fall into the bad books of Akbar,by doing harm to his son. This is only my interpretation. So people can interpret however they like.So it is better stop interpreting history and go according to true historical facts and do not distort history.
2.Will Abul Fazal describe Daniyals mother as a chaste lady if she was a concubine:
Abul fazal used the same term chaste for a concubine ummed, the mother of Nasir mirza younger brother to Emperor Babar.(Akbarnama pg221 vol 1).Then why should he not describe Daniyals mother as chaste lady.First of all Abul Fazl is a shamless flaterrer as said by Beveridge in the preface of Akbarnama. For him all Akbars wives are chaste, gem, pure and noble. How can he put the ladies down when they are the mothers of Akbars children. When Jahangir married Nurjahan, she was just a lady in waiting for Ruqaya but after the wedding all commanders were bowing in front of her.Abul fazl’s father had kids born through concubines which was well taken care by Abul Fazl himself. It was 15th century culture not 20th century.
3.Will Akbar sent a concubine son to Amber:
For Akbar, Daniyal was his precious son.He will not treat him inferiorly for most of his kids were through concubine. It is 15th century and not 20th century where multiple wives were there and they can have 100 concubines. For mughals kids born through wives as well as concubine were treated the same way.Babur’s father treated Babur and his brother Nasir Ahmed who was born through a concubine in the same way.Jahangir treated his fourth son Sharyar born through a concubine in the same way as his other son.Infact he was a favourable contender to the throne.Aurangazeb son Born through his concubine Udhaipuri mahal was treated in the same way as his other sons. Raja Bharmals family will agree to Akbars request.Once it was Raja Bharmals son Bhagavandas who went to Jaisalmer, picked up the princess there and dropped her in Akbars harem for Akbar to marry. This may be abnormal for the 20th century people, but it was a common culture in the 15thcentury.Such a family will definetly take care of Akbar’s son who was just a kid.
Anarkali and Daniyals mother:
This clearly shows that there had been a bazaar gossip about Anarkali and Salim. The traveller had become confused because Daniyals mother had died that time. This shows Daniyals mothers death had been famous among the people of Lahore.
DEATH OF PRINCE DANIYALS MOTHER:
Prince Daniyal’s mother died in 1596 as in Akbarnama.Volume 3.Chapter:CXXVIII.Page no1063.
People can go through this page to know the true fact. Since it is a part of a chapter people may not have noticed it. Shahzada kanam,Akbars first daughter’s mothers death is also written as a part of a chapter.Abul Fazl doesn’t mention the death of most of Akbar’s wife.He had mentioned the death of these two ladies because they are mothers of Akbar’s children.
MUZ died in 1623 as documented in Jahangir.Even her death is very briefly mentioned by Jahangir, her son.
Now one should be very clear MARIAM ZAMANI WAS NOT THE MOTHER OF DANIYAL
PLEASE DO NOT IMMAGINE,INTERPRET,MANIPULATE AND DISTORT HISTORY.IT IS INJUSTICE DONE TO THE FUTURE GENERATION AS WELL AS TO THE MUGHALS WHO ARE NO MORE.
Salman Bhai, I respect you a lot due to your good work towards the society and I like u as well as an actor but the way u hv reacted upon Arijit Singh and after his repetitive apologies your non reaction shows your wrong attitude. Hope you will understand soon.

Have a good day
It is very inappropriate to comment about a lady. It reflects upon the person commenting. Many are shacken up by the achievements of the Government though long term. It is by each day passing becoming difficult to accept the progressive measures adopted by Prime Minister and his Team. It might have caused frustation amongst others, hence such uncalled for comments.

DEAFENING SILENCE ON CLIMATE CHANGE
Notwithstanding the fact that the ruling party in a democracy is prone to indulging in populist measures to remain in power, it would be disastrous to abandon long term goals in face of political expediency, particularly when the very survival of the human race is at stake. Unfortunately, the Finance Minister in his budget speech did not find it worthwhile to even mention this global crisis, let alone find the ways how to tackle it. Was it an ominous silence? Was the PMO clueless about the budget proposals? Is the government not serious about its international obligations and commitments?
PARIS CONFERENCE ON CLIMATE CHANGE
It might be called preposterous on my part to remind the honourable Prime Minister that only in November 2015 he visited a beautiful place called Paris to attend the World Climate Change Conference ( also called COP 21), where leaders of the world had gathered to find ways and means to tackle the manace of global warming. The 195 Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) adopted the Paris Agreement after two weeks of intensive negotiations at the summit. Calling the Paris Agreement on climate change “a health insurance policy for the planet,” United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he never lost faith over his nine years in office that the international community could rise to the challenge and take steps to curb emission and boost climate-resilient growth. “It is a health insurance policy for the planet. It is the most significant action in years to uphold our Charter mandate to ‘save succeeding generations.’ For the first time, every country in the world has pledged to curb emissions, strengthen resilience and act internationally and domestically to address climate change.”
BUDGETARY PROVISIONS – CLUELESS GOVERNMENT
The Environment Ministry has got Rs 2,250.34 crore in the 2016-17 Union budget of which Rs 2,000 cr is under plan head and Rs 250.34 cr under non plan. Last year, the Ministry had got Rs 1668.60 crore of which Rs 1,446.60 crore was under plan and Rs 222 crore under non plan heads. The 2016-17 budgetary allocation marks an increase of Rs 581.74 crore over the current fiscal.
Finance Minister increased the cess on coal production from Rs 200 per tonne to Rs 400 per tonne. He also said the Clean Energy Cess would be renamed as Clean Environment Cess. When it was doubled from Rs 100 per tonne to Rs 200 per tonne last year, it was estimated that it would contribute about Rs 13,000 crore to National Clean Energy Fund (NCEF) every year. With the value of this fund going up further with the latest hike, the entire budget allocation for Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for this year — Rs 5,000 crore — is proposed to come from NCEF. Half the plan outlay for Environment Ministry, about Rs 1,000 crore, is also proposed to be met through this fund.
Terming pollution and traffic situation in Indian cities as a “matter of concern”, FM also proposed to levy an infrastructure cess of 1 per cent on small petrol, LPG, CNG cars, 2.5 per cent on diesel cars of certain capacity and 4 per cent on other higher engine capacity vehicles and SUVs.
THE ALARM BELLS ARE RINGING
Any number of reports from the renownd organisations/institution/NGO’s around the world may be cited to support the view that the global climate change is for real and that human activities are primarily responsible for it. However, I would like referring to the Synthesis Report released by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) . The Synthesis Report distils and integrates the findings of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report produced by over 800 scientists and released over the past 13 months – the most comprehensive assessment of climate change ever undertaken.
The Synthesis Report confirms that climate change is being registered around the world and warming of the climate system is unequivocal. Since the 1950s many of the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia. “Our assessment finds that the atmosphere and oceans have warmed, the amount of snow and ice has diminished, sea level has risen and the concentration of carbon dioxide has increased to a level unprecedented in at least the last 800,000 years,” said Thomas Stocker, Co-Chair of IPCC Working Group I. The report expresses with greater certainty than in previous assessments the fact that emissions of greenhouse gases and other anthropogenic drivers have been the dominant cause of observed warming since the mid-20th century. The impacts of climate change have already been felt in recent decades on all continents and across the oceans.
“We have the means to limit climate change,” said the Chair of the IPCC. “The solutions are many and allow for continued economic and human development. All we need is the will to change, which we trust will be motivated by knowledge and an understanding of the science of climate change.”
Is the Prime Minister of India listening? If not, we are waiting for a disaster. Forget the so-called Vikas, even our survival is in danger. This is not five star activism. Mind it, this the stark reality. The choice is yours.
RAMA’s PERIOD FROM RESEARCH ON VALMIKI RAMAYANA: Many people express their own estimations arbitrarily without providing any documentary proof. Some people say Ramayana was held 5000 years ago without ay basis. Ramayana composed by Valmiki has the answer, particularly in Rama Pattabhishek sarga. Rama ruled for 11,000 years. In Sanskrit, it is said dasa varsha sahasrani, dasa varsha satanicha (Ten times ta housand and ten times a hundred). One may argue how is it possible for a man to live for 11,000 years. Thousands of years ago, longevity of man was high and age of ancient man should not be equated to the modern man. If we add his 14 years of exile to forests and life at Ayodhya, it can be around 40 yrs. Anyhow, we can approximate his longevity was around 11,000 years. One cannot be sure whether Treta Yug ended with the end of Rama. Anyhow, Dwapar Yug followed, the exact time period of which is not known. It can be several thousands of years. Next, Kali Yug entered. One is not sure how many years are already over till now. But it can be few thousands of years. Considering all these periods, Rama’s or Ramayana’s period should be over 11,000 years ago.
I am human a fetus and I confess that, I do not bear any religion. My parents give me a name and I grow up to a Baby to a Child to a Adolescent to a Youth to a Adult to Old. In the process, I am stimulated to a particular religion.
I am created with the same blood, flesh and all components of a human being. So, why I am forced to be confined to one religion only? Is it because, I have chosen the womb of a particular religion?? Or is it because, I cannot express my opinion??? Or is it that I have not taken birth as Jesus, Muhammad, Adi Shankara, Guru Nanak, Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Zoroaster or founder of hundreds of new religions????
Everyone agrees that religion is a way of living life. Then why so much bitterness among religions, temptations by political leaders and religious leaders to pronounce some religion as bad or inferior than other religion. Does the creator of life in this earth have induced any rule to live? If yes, why not follow the creator’s rules; If not, then who are we create rules for others to follow? Everyone forgets the basics of religion and interprets same religion in various ways.
I am so much agonized that every day, so many killing of human life occurring across globe due to religion/color of the skin only. Is this the creator of life, ever thought about ? Are we challenging his creation?? If yes, then are we forcing the creator to end live in the earth via natural calamities???
So, can I request you all that let me to choose the religion, like I choose my career, life partner, other choices in my lifetime. It is my Life and I have all right to decide for myself.
p.s. If one wishes to consider the category of “human” a moral category, then one is left with no way of showing that the fetus is full human without question.
Smriti Irani – the master blaster
Though this phrase was used for Sachin, Smriti Irani is the latest recipient of this title. The manner in which she took over the Parliament by her fiery speech , it was a matter of concern for those people who thought that the educated should be the only entrants into parliament. I agree , but educated doesn’t mean enlightened. So it is better to have an enlightened lady than an educated one who doesn’t speak out in Parliament. The depth of the research , the confidence and the expression was to be seen to be believed. That day she won a lot of admirers. She was already admired by many for having bravely faced the might of Rahul Gandhi for which she has been rewarded too. But on that fateful day, she was a on a rampage . The opposition was a lame duck, running helter skelter.
Coming to the latest, the Bihar Minsiter’s address to Smriti Irani on the incessant delay of the New Education Policy was tangentially taken somewhere . The delay in education policy was a genuine question. But the astute politician in Smriti Irani took over . Instead of replying to the question she took out the word DEAR and blasted the minister with a lecture of addressing ladies and so on and side stepped the issue of delay. And the whole nation took to this debate for and against with one side talking talking of respect to women and the other spoke of grammar and letter writing correctness and the delay issue was forgotten. This is the mark of an astute leader. Not just did she sidestep the issue but she raised another issue to subvert the attention. Poor Bihar Minister.
Agricultural activity in India for small and marginal farmers currently is unsustainable. This phenomenon stems from fragmented lands that cannot:
1. Absorb technology nor mechanisation
2. Suffers from perpetual indebtedness that cannot provide the inputs
3. Unable to source labor. Tough to get productivity out of them, if engaged
4. Poor storage to keep produce safe from parasites
5. Harassing strings of middlemen who deny the worth of farmer’s meagre produce
6. Bureaucratic ineptitude, to tackle their problems, to mention a few
Central and State Governments provide help and assistance to these farmers through consistent budgetary allocations every year besides providing adhoc reliefs when either floods or draughts strike. However the delivery mechanism is slothful and ridden with corruption. Bulk of the provisions is siphoned off. This is a big reason for the abysmal state of these classes of farmers. Ironically some Government staff becomes rich at the cost of poor. A pathetic state!
Logically Government must exit the agriculture sector as this has done more harm than help. Instead Government must concentrate on more useful and endurable work in building roads, connecting rivers, build canals, from these canals create an intelligent network to ensure all lands gets irrigated, provide continuous power supply, simplify and speed up the process of land registration / transfer, simplify legal system, bring digital technology of internet browsing facility and the like. Money spent on these will benefit the farming communities more than the current measures. These will build capital assets and avoid revenue expenditure (loss) through doles. The direct benefit to farmers will begin to get rid of poverty sooner and eventually resurrect them from penury. This will also create more jobs and consequently arrest migration. The farms sector will begin to contribute to the GDP growth in a significant manner.
The other worrisome factors that encumber farmers are unpredictable weather, depleting water resources adulterated seeds, inefficient power supply and lack of availability of the farm labor and farm debts. All these collapse the farmer and disillusion them and drive them to extreme poverty. The youngsters desert their older ones in the villages to migrate to larger towns, ostensibly seeking employment and with poor education and lack of skills required for an urban environment they fail and fall a pray to tumultuous activities. The plight of farmers with large land holdings up to 10 acres of lands, are not different..
A plethora of local NGOs many with foreign origins have been in operation in India for long in the agri-space. All of them are engaged in advising farmers on applicable / available technology, farming methods to improve their skills and develop managerial abilities to run their vocation better; all of which do not help these classes of farmers. In fact there are many narrative about fund misappropriation of the NGOs barring a very few. Thus such measures have failed to alleviate the miseries of farmers. It appears that they are ‘barking the wrong tree’ to mention the least; knowingly or unknowingly!
Many authors and theorists including business managers of repute, say that “In our opinion, the real problem in agriculture is the absence of a holistic framework, incorporating technology, risk mitigation, institutions, policies and technical training”, say the authors of ‘What India cad do differently in agriculture’, in their book. The authors have not identified the vehicle and the methods through which these can be done. However these are the ideas that can form a part of the curriculum of agriculture schools in the country and not applied to small and marginal farmers who are sweating out in their fields. Why the subject of agriculture cannot be taught in village schools in addition to the present curriculum. After class 8, when they usually branch off to science or arts or commerce streams agriculture could be one addition stream? This may create a strong preference and students can go up to the college levels in Universities and get employed in rural India. They will get immediate employment in the type of institutionalised form of agriculture we will talk about later in this note.
Present Agriculture Universities teach students only good agricultural theories but with little or no practical classes, their education remains incomplete. So how will students coming out get to work in agriculture environment? That is one reason that annually graduating 19000 students from Agriculture Universities do not remain with Agriculture, even if they are passionate. ICAR and many such R & D institutions create new varieties of crops, seeds tissue cultures with excellent credibility but all are a bundle of wasteful efforts, if these cannot be applied real time farms. R & D is done on the University’s farms with ideal conditions that may not be so in real fields of farmers. This is corroborated by statistics showing that new varieties of researched seeds had varying yields in different parts of the country. An eminent Agronomist in the country, Mr. KPP Nair once said long time ago that the difference between the Chinese and Indian scientist in agriculture is while in China, the scientists go to the villages and hand hold farmers in teaching their findings, in India the scientists send out their finding sitting from the comfort of their offices to their subordinates in the field. The large land holder and big farmers benefit by these nuances.
If one stays in the villages and make efforts to study farmer’s problems, it would be apparent that the theoretician’s panacea for alleviating the farmer will be unworkable. It is because the suggested steps will be impossible for individual farmers to go about as he is deep into distress already. To compound, the farmer faces indebtedness and is hounded by money lenders. There is not much left for him to get his inputs for the land to produce meaningful crop / yield. Further it will be uneconomic to apply technology or mechanisation on fragmented lands.
Economist Prabhat Patnaik observes in Outlook Magazine: “Our share of cultivators has fallen since 1951. A whole set of people who might have been independent peasants…have been pushed into the ranks of agricultural labor. They have no rights, no security of income; they are subject to the worst kind of drudgery because it is all manual work. They cannot organise. It’s just a miserable and painful state of existence.”
Since the stagnant rural economy offers meagre opportunities for employment, a large segment of these households are footloose, circular distress migrants, evocatively described by labor anthropologist Jan Breman as ‘hunters and gatherers of work’. To stay alive, they will go to any corner of the country, to do any work, with any remuneration, on any terms. How true, as we see these migrants from lands far away, with different languages, cultures reside by road-side to seek work! It s indeed pathetic and painful to see such fellow Indians who once fed us, suffer from penury, now. Their children loiter and have lost opportunity to be educated.
Admittedly only large farmers are finding this vacation sustainable and emerge as real producers of food grains in the country. They produce whatever is best suited for them. They are an influential lot and often seen to be behind framing policies on agriculture. Many are politically connected and consequently are the biggest beneficiaries from this vocation. In contrast to small farmers, large farmers in our country with large tracts of lands conduct profitable agribusiness. Besides farming they have innovatively done value addition and successfully tapped opportunities for exports. They have large financial resource and can organise local labor easily. They also benefit from Government’s largess in terms of waiver of Income Tax, benefit the subsidies and take loans even though they may strictly not need one but await a loan waiver.
Also, there seems no system to communicate with farmers to produce what is needed in the country. For example, if there is the shortage of pluses, there is no mechanism available to communicate with farmers to grow pulses. Even if there is one, is it possible to get farmers to grow pulses to fulfil the demand? What price will they secure? Is the farmer who never grew pulses before, prepared to take risks? The fear of middlemen playing havoc will frighten farmers. Organising skills is yet to develop to tackle such eventualities. Hence, the Government has no other alternative but to import. There appears no system to assess, guide and fall into a norm for food production in India. With generally poor administrative machinery, one wonders if the statistical information provided by the Government is authentic. It is thus clear that the Management of the affairs of agriculture needs refurbishment to get around the issues eluding the right answers.
One of the progressive measures relates to the Government amending the Companies Act to incorporate a new section 581 to promote a concept of Farm Producer Company (FPC). Essentially this was to overcome the problems relating to cooperative society system that was initiated soon after independence. FPC gives a structural form to enable farmers to create a corporate form of enterprise so that famers can be issued equity shares against their land value and become owners of the enterprise to the extent of the equity holding. While it was intended that groups of farmers would form such FPC and operate with a vision to produce common good, it was a non starter because the structure lacked managerial expertise to operate in that form it was conceived. FPC was created to enable the company to, for instance, meet bank officials to arrange for loans for individual farmers, negotiate with input suppliers to deliver at reasonable prices and with good quality and so on. In other words what individual farmers lacked in doing independent farming, was to be done by a structured enterprise for the farmers. Deficiency of leadership, enterprise and cohesion were lacking. Thus it remains in an indeterminate state.
Many corporate like ITC, Mahindra, Birla, Reliance, HLL, Rallies, Godrej, and Pepsi to name a few have got into agricultural business. All of them have gained considerably from agriculture that signifies that wealth can be created from agriculture. However they are done with large land owners only.
However corporate farming has earned more criticism amongst the writers and observers of the agriculture industry because they feel that corporate collude with international agriculture companies. This may not be true entirely. Without exploitative mind an existing corporate can form a FPC and install a professional team to do agriculture on the farmers’ lands and derive benefits for themselves as well!
In Andhra Pradesh, under the aegis of the then Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu, who was perhaps inspired, coincidentally by the idea presented in this paper, agreed to let BHC Agro India Private Limited to conduct agricultural on lands belonging to farmers. Around 200 acres of lands belonging to small and marginal farmer’s lands were given to this company. The company had a tie up with an Israel Company for the supply of drip irrigation, even though, irrigating fields with drip technology has been in vogue in the country for long and certainly before this experiment. The land-owner farmers were asked to leave the village. A few were however engaged as labor but for a low wage and treated shabbily and poorly. They operated with a huge budget and spent money like water in pesticides and high-value fertiliser. They had no systematic plan for growing crops and did not engage any agricultural personnel but carried on with whatever manpower they had. This resulted in a total failure of the project and ultimately, had to be wound up. The farmers felt cheated at the end of the experiment. These details are in public domain. This is the result of a good model, but improperly executed.
Having virtually exhausted all avenues to resurrect small and marginal farmers, the way ahead can be summerised as follows:
Agriculture in India needs to be institutionalised in a manner that would be conducive to build the structure of the required paradigm. Individual farmers are too tired and worn out, confused at the array of rural interventions by NGOs and exploiters. Skill development, training and professional jargons do not enter their minds. They need resurrection from penury. They need hand holding and encouragement and assurance. Individually farmers cannot do agriculture and make a living. So the only way ahead for them is to group them together and let the farming be done on their lands by some professionals with whom they can engage for a wage.
They need to be convinced that formation of Farmer Producer Company is their option and they must understand this concept clearly. Mechanism to communicate the concept to the farmers assumes a challenge and a way need to be found to transmit the idea properly. When farmers’ lands will not be taken away or leased or sold, they must be assured. Besides, they will be resurrected from penury by getting wages all round the year. The other challenge is to secure an investor with passion and possesses a non-exploitative nature to partner with farmers. The proverbial storey of “goose laying golden eggs” comes to mind. It is a hard work and satisfaction always comes out in hard and sincere work. Institutionalisation, of agriculture is required to use large tracts of lands with use of technology, financial resource, management and engaging the best in the field of agriculture to develop a profitable model. Benefits can be shared by all constituents. The efforts of individual farmers thus get eradicated and joint effort with the cooperation of everyone will move the engine of development. This will alleviate small and marginal farmers, restore the village sanctity of peaceful and health living and create more jobs. Youth will desist migrating to cities and be a part of the entire system to joint effort that will build and develop villages.
A FPC can be registered between entrepreneurs and farmers under section 581 of the Company’s Act.
1. Entrepreneur(s) bring in cash for equity share and farmer’s land value is considered for issue of shares to him.
2. A Management Team will consist of farmers endowed with good knowledge and a sharp eye on farming techniques, investor(s)’s men with professional qualification or experience and lastly, eminent agricultural professionals.
3. All members will stay at the farm where comfortable dwelling accommodation shall be built.
4. Farmers’ lands will remain unaltered. It shall not be sold nor leased to the FPC. A written undertaking if necessary can be given to this extent. Real-time Satellite picture of the entire lands will be taken and exhibited on a big board in the FPC’s premises..
5. Cereals consumed by farmers will be produced on the lands of FPC, so that farmers need not go to fetch their food elsewhere. Farmers will be treated with dignity and respect by the Management Team and whoever is outsider into the system. A team of HR professionals will be entrusted to oversee this aspect.
6. Farmer’s cattle will be taken care by the FPC and milk from the cows and buffalos will be given to the children of the farmers.
7. Farmers will work on the lands according to the directions given by the management and wages will be paid for all those who are able to work. Children will not be allowed to work and must attend school. This will immediately sustain the farmer and his attitude towards a team work will ensure productivity.
8. People other than members will also get employment full time in the project. The aim will be to ensure employment for all those willing and employable. In addition to farming the FPC will go in for developing non-farm activities and value addition measures to improve the bottom line of the enterprise.
9. Success with one project will energise interest in many to form such PCs all over.
The foregoing proposal immediately alleviates the misery of the farmer from penury. He is mentally peaceful and blissful! Once the organisational plan is firmed up, results can be expected within 18 to 24 month. As farmers are paid wages, the risk factor is not weighing against him. Farmers will soon realise that the gold laying goose should be nurtured!
FPC can expand their horizon in terms of community development and when others also come in the fray, there will be competition amongst on showing one-up-man ship. The key is to collect and convince first group of farmers to collectively engage themselves and see the benefit it brings. Automatically many surrounding villages will take this up. I am waiting the first move.
The writer of this note is prepared to be a member of the Management Team or as a guide to see through the first such enterprise.

According to the modern Indian history books Lord Buddha is believed to have been born in the sixth century BC and Chandragupta Maurya is believed to have been the ruler of Magadha Empire soon after the invasion of Alexander in the year 327 BC. There is a common misconception among the laymen as well as the historians that these and the other dates given in the official version of Indian history are proven facts.
However, a careful and critical examination of the sources from which, and the manner in which, these dates have been derived show that these dates are only as true as the creation of the universe in (or around) the year 4006 BC.
Most people including the historians believe that the dates mentioned above and the other dates of Indian history have been derived mainly from archaeological evidences, inscriptions on stone pillars and the accounts of the foreign travelers. But no history can be written from such discontinuous sources. History has to be written mainly from the historical accounts. The modern pioneers of Indian history namely Sir William Jones, Professor Max Muller, Professor Wilson and other orientalists of late eighteenth and early nineteenth century AD knew this and the first sources they looked for Indian history were the scriptures known as Itihasa and Purana such as Mahabharata, Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana, Vayu Purana, Matsysa Purana and Bhavishya Purana.
The Puranas give the dates of the historical events in Kaliyugabda, Vikram Samvat, Sakabda and other Indian eras still in use at present. From these narrations it is possible to get the dates of all important historical events in the Christian era. This web site gives the chronology of ancient Indian history calculated precisely in this manner.
However, Sir William Jones and the European orientalists of the eighteenth and early nineteenth century AD ran into a serious difficulty in determining the chronology from the Puranas in this manner. It must be recalled that during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries it was firmly believed by scientists and other learned men of Europe that the universe was created around the year 4006 BC.
The theory of evolution suggested by Darwin and the idea of the universe being millions, or even billions, of years old was not accepted by scientists till late nineteenth century. Other learned men of Europe did not accept, or even know, such antiquity of the universe till the twentieth century. The earlier European orientalists could not possibly believe in the chronology of Puranas which places the age of the universe at a few billion years ( in contrast to the accepted age of less than 6000 years ) at the end of the eighteenth century AD.
Their misgivings were strengthened because of the following:
1. The narrations of the events of the first three eras, namely Krita Yuga, Treta Yuga and Dwapara Yuga, in the Puranas appear more mythical than factual, though the narrations of the events of Kali Yuga are purely factual accounts.
2. Most of the narrations of the events after the battle of Kurukshetra are written in future tense. All narrations are made in a mythological language involving the gods (rather unnecessarily) in the events. This could be very confusing to scholars not familiar with Indian traditions.
3. There are some discrepancies in the accounts of the different Puranas partly due to errors in copying, proof-reading etc. including modern printing and partly due to deliberate alterations to suit the purpose of the royal families in whose courts the scriptures were maintained. These could be corrected by comparing the different Puranas as well as the different versions of the same Purana. This could be hardly expected to have been done in an unbiased manner by the early European orientalists who were exploring a field hitherto completely unknown. The later orientalists, like Pargiter, could not do a proper evaluation as they were already biased by the earlier work.
4. Many famous translations, or rather narrations, of the Puranas in the vernacular languages contain accounts much in variation from the original Sanskrit texts from which those are purported to have been derived. Kamban Ramayana, Kritibas Ramayana and Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas are such examples. In addition there are famous literary works like “Abhigyana Shakuntalam”, “Mudra Rakshasa” and “Harsha Charita” which are more popular but can be very misleading for the purpose of chronology.
Thus the European orientalists like Professor Max Muller and Sir William Jones came to the obvious, but grossly erroneous, conclusion that though the accounts of the Puranas are based on a hard core of historical facts, the chronology is all wrong.Having thus dismissed the straightforward method of determining the chronology of Indian history, the orientalists started looking for other sources including their own conjectures. Sir William Jones actually suggested a chronological table of events starting with the year 4006 BC which he conjectured as the year of creation of Swayambhuba Manu.
This chronological table taken from the “Complete Works of Sir William Jones” is given in Appendix I. (See part 6 of this web site ) Though most of the modern historians do not know it, the chronology they use is an improved version of the table given in Appendix I.
Professor Max Muller improved upon the work of Sir William Jones by trying to correlate Indian history with Greek history. One ancient event the date of which is well-known in the Christian era is the invasion of Alexander. There is no mention whatsoever of Alexander or anything connected with his invasion in any Purana or any other ancient Indian account including the Buddhist Chronicles. The obvious inference is that the invasion of Alexander did not touch any important kingdom of India. Professor Max Muller then searched the Greek accounts and the narrations of the other classical European writers for the name of any Indian ruler who could be located. One such name is Sandrocottus. He is said to have succeeded Xandramese who was a contemporary of Alexander. Sir William Jones had suggested that Chandragupta of Mudra Rakshasa could be the Sandrocottus of Greek history.
Professor Max Muller confirmed this identification. His main purpose was to arrive at a chronology acceptable to the intellectuals of early nineteenth century. In fact his motives and methods are best described in his own words. In his “History of Ancient Sanskrit Literature (Allahabad Edition 1859 A.D)” Professor Max Muller writes as follows:
“There is but one means through which history of India can be connected with that of Greece, and its chronology be reduced to its proper limits. Although we look in vain in the literature of the Brahmans or Buddhists for any allusion to Alexander’s conquest, and although it is impossible to identify any of the historical events, related by Alexander’s companions, with the historical traditions of India, one name has fortunately been preserved by classical writers who describe the events immediately following Alexander’s conquest, to form a connecting link between the history of the East and the West. This is the name of Sandrocottus or Sandrocyptus, the Sanskrit Chandragupta. “We learn from classical writers Justin, Arrian, Diodorus Siculus, Strabo, Quintus Curtius and Plutarch, powerful king of the name of Xandrames, and that soon after Alexander’s invasion, a new empire was founded there by Sandrocottus or Sandrocyptus.
“These accounts of the classical writers contain a number of distinct statements which could leave very little doubt as to the king to whom they referred. Indian historians, it is true, are generally so vague and so much given to exaggeration, that their kings are all very less, if there ever was such a king of Prasii a usurper, residing at Pataliputra, called Sandrocyptus or Sandrocottus, it is hardly possible that he should not be recognized in the historical traditions of India. The name of Chandragupta and the resemblance of this name with the name of Sandrocottus or Sandrocyptus was first, I believe, pointed out by Sir William Jones. IVDr. Wilford, Professor Wilson and Professor Lassen have afterwards added further evidence in confirmation of Sir William Jone’s conjecture; and although other scholars and particularly M. Troyer, in his edition of the Rajatarangini, have raised objections, we shall see that the evidence in favour of the identity of Chandragupta and Sandrocyptus is such as to admit of no reasonable doubt”.
From this identification, the coronation of Maurya Chandragupta around the year 327 BC was taken as the sheet anchor date for Indian chronology.
Though most of the modern scholars of Indian history do not know it all the dates of ancient Indian history have been arrived at by calculating backward and forward from this sheet anchor date. For example Lord Buddha (according to the Puranas and Buddhist chronicles) was born nearly 340 years before the coronation of Maurya Chandragupta. His year of birth was fixed as 567 BC purely as a conjecture.
It is high time that the modern students and scholars of history rewrite the ancient history of India on the basis of the correct chronology from the Puranas. The purpose of the web site is to provide students and scholars of history the outline of the Puranic chronology supported by archaeological evidences and foreign notices.
Criticisms and suggestions are invited from readers about the contents of this web site including the dates of the individual historic events. All such correspondence is welcome.

Over the past few years, we have witnessed the emergence of a group of people called bhakts, and their ever-increasing number has often been a grave concern for many across the nation. Ironically, though, the ones who are annoyed by the presence of bhakts in a progressive society are the same people who label every random individual as a bhakt….
If Madam Sonia Gandhi is projected as the chief ministerial candidate in UP Assembly election, the entire Congress party throughout the country will be electrified. The political atmosphere in UP will be charged as never before. All Congress workers and all supporters of the Congress party will work hard to ensure her victory

Subject: Beer will help our state
The recent elections in our state saw most of the parties, including yours, promising to bring in prohibition. This is a brave decision, as it will reduce the state’s revenue by a big chunk. As a drinker myself, I’m not personally delighted by this promise either.
However, the problems faced by families of alcoholics are real, and cannot be ignored by those who want to have a good time. There are too many horrific reports of beatings and rape by drunken men of their own family members.
Some people say it is all about drinking responsibly. But I highly doubt that a poor construction worker who has an aching body at the end of a day’s work cares much for the concept of moderation.
Here is a proposal that will satisfy all parties, while maintaining the state’s revenue –
Permit beer to be the only alcohol sold in the state.
Typically, most cases of drunken rage and abuse stem from a person making a quick stop at a TASMAC and slamming down a half bottle in a few gulps. With beer, it is almost impossible to get so inebriated in such a short time. It calls for serious dedication of time, which most tipplers will be unable to provide.
The sheer volume of beer acts as a brake to uncontrolled inebriation, as a person’s stomach capacity is a bottleneck.
If a person tries to compensate by chugging strong beer very quickly, they will end up disgorging their stomach’s contents, and end up sober again. Experiments with dubious beers such as Black Pearl, Haywards and Vorion have conformed this.
Furthermore, as has been argued by many of my fellow drinkers, blanket prohibition will lead to spurious alcohol, blindness, dementia and many deaths. Although I cannot say this is better or worse than drinking Black Pearl beer.
A look at India’s history shows that we have a long and storied past of brewed beverages. They are an inseparable and glorious part of our heritage, as much as our temples and our literature. It is only after distilled alcohol was brought in by the colonial powers that we have begun to face ill effects.
In addition, prohibition will lead to the loss of many jobs in our state in many sectors. We will see a sharp decline in tourism, when we are already losing ground to our neighbouring states.
Allowing sale of beer will ensure that the state continues to generate revenue, while being responsible to the suffering families, and providing a harmless solution to the tipplers of Tamil Nadu.
I beseech you to consider this strategy which would satisfy all stakeholders. There will be the odd case of a drinker going overboard with beer, but it will be very rare.
Of course, there will be the necessity to install a number of public toilets to cater to the increase in beer drinkers. We need more of them in our state anyway, and I hope they will be built regardless of prohibition policy.
The batting depth and the class of Virat, Gayle, De Villiers and Watson definitely gives RCB the advantage in addition to the fact that they will be playing at their home ground at the Chinnaswamy but Bhuvi, Mustafizur, Sran and Henriques might just be the bowling attack that can tame the beast of the batting line up that awaits them.
The incidents of Dadri and Hamirpur- of a muslim men being beaten by bricks and iron rods to death on the suspicion that he might have consumed beef, and of a dalit elderly man beaten and burnt alive for trying to enter a temple, respectively, is a very grim reminder of the very high currents of communalist spirit taking space in our society.
It is a very very dangerous trend. We all must take note and fight our own battles against it before it comes to haunt us personally in some or the other way and we are left alone. Let’s unite!
Presenting ओ री दुनिया a masterpiece from Piyush Mishra to emphasize my point. The last para where he says even God says तुम्हारी है तुम ही सम्भालों ये दुनिया… when men starts distinguishing themselves between religions.

O dear world,
O world of cups of kohl-lined eyes (from which one can drink),
O world of rainbow-colored colors and Gulaals..
it’s a world of flowers decorating sleepy beds (for the wedding night),
it’s a world of lazy-stretching pigeon..
it’s a world of truth sleeping (calmly) by its side,
and a world of a temperament going mad..
it’s a world of needs wrapped with wishes,
it’s a world of humans’ dreams and their intentions..
World, o world,
what’s there (to celebrate) even if one gets this world..
what’s there even if one gets this world…
what’s there.. (there is nothing in this world that is worth)…
The world of stories of (mothers’) shredded love,
The world of sisters’ sobbing youth,
A world of the relation of Adam and Eve,
World of uninspiring words of poets..
The world of Ghalib and Momin’s dreams,
the world of those revolutions of poets like Majaz (Lakhnawi),
World of Faiz (Ahmed Faiz), Firaaq (Gorakhpuri), Sahir (Ludhiyanvi), Makhdoom (Mohiuddin), Mir (Taqi Mir), (Mohd Ibrahim) Zauq, and Daagh (Dehlvi)..
[All these were poets known for their revolutionary moods, in different times]
Within moments, things move on,
within moments, nights go (as in, everything goes in a matter of moments)
the one who remains, looks for the morning,
looks for a place to live in the burning house..
Save this world, whatever is remaining in here, as it is,
Think of it as your own, and pick it up (in your arms, to protect it),
(else) it’ll start burning in small-unimportant things, save this world,
it’ll be cut-bruised-beaten and will be living in nights (dark times), save this world…
O world, dear world,
They say that the world is not this much (only),
there are more world beyond the stars,
It’s not just us,
there is Someone Else too (talking of God here)
everything about us is decided there only,
(and) we don’t have an objection to that anywhere,
They’re knowledgeable, virtuous, would be correct too,
but this philisophy goes bad, when they say-
The Intelligent says there is Eeshwar (Hindu God)
The Virtuous says there is Allah,
The Perfect one says there is Jesus,
Then the destination says to the man,
that- this world is yours, you only take care of it!
This world of a few old, dying lamps,
world of your dark intentions…
I was too young (3 years old) to understand the ramifications of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) act of 1992 and how it changed the social fabric of India. This may be one reason why by 1997-98 I was a big fan of this party, it’s ideology and it’s pro-hindu stance. Yes I was not too old to properly comprehend it even then but we, in Bihar, does have more political and social conscience from very early age.
So I can understand those who are fan-boys of Narendra Modi (of whatever age), whose political conscience is new found, thus either not able to understand what happened in 2002 under his watch or it’s implication on our society.
But the similarity ends there… the BJP of 96 to 2004 or even later till Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani were in command, was a completely different party. It was a much independent party compared to the Jan Sangh days of being remote controlled by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh : RSS. Yes it depended on RSS but it’s social agenda of governance does not flow from RSS, neither was it remote controlled. Governance was owned by Atal ji and advised by Brajesh Mishra much to the chagrin of RSS. From being a extreme right party, Atal and Advani made BJP more of centre-right party with inclusive agenda and put aside all controversial issues. The pair of Atal & Advani further believed in empowerment and sharing power, thus leaders like Syed Shahnawaz Hussain was given prominence. Nitish Kumar was promoted in Bihar (even at the cost of BJP), Babulal Marandi in Jharkhand and BJP happily played second fiddle to Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, Naveen pattnaik in Odisha, etc. It was the era of inclusiveness and progress, so a Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna was for infrastructure development and at the same time Advani convinced Late Bal Thackeray to avoid anti-north indian rants, and so Shiv Sena spread to Bihar, UP, Delhi, etc. Thus, BJP (though had sins of ’92 and influence of RSS with it’s divious agenda of hate) was an able alternative to Indian National Congress.
But under Modi, the fan-boys should see that while he is on a personal campaign which may appeal to some of us but the social aspect of governance is completely dominated by RSS. There is no argument that we need credible and stable alternative to Congress but RSS can’t be that option. Just because we need that alternative, and there is none to fall back upon, and the deeds of Gujarat have only affected 20% of the population so most of us are not ‘that’ uncomfortable with Modi, and Modi’s antics have appealed to some of us who think it is ‘cool’, we must not take our eyes away from the agenda of RSS which will do us irrepairable damage. To safeguard our alternative, let us not start justifying RSS, for it will come back to haunt us. RSS agenda is not just harmful for the minority 20% of the population, but also the liberals who forms the majority of the remaining 80% of us. We may chose to live in oblivion but it will have grave ramifications.
BJP under Modi, and with social agenda being driven by RSS, just can’t be the alternative to Congress. It is a doom’s day invitation.
But the world owes much to rebels who would dare to argue in the face of the pontiff and insist that he is not infallible.
I do not care about the credit which every progressive society must give to its rebels. I shall be satisfied if I make the Hindus realize that they are the sick men of India, and that their sickness is causing danger to the health and happiness of other Indians.
B. R. AMBEDKAR – in the “annihilation of caste”
I have always been enamored by Dr. Ambedkar in particular, and to the ‘Dalit’ (or caste or social justice) movement in India. For I believe, any claim to our progress is un-founded till we work tirelessly to bring to better levels, people from every section of our society. Especially those who have been marginalized and discriminated against historically, we have bigger obligations to them and thus I am a big votary of ‘affirmative action’.
It is ironic if we look back at our past and compare our vision with those who comprise a big part of our society, say for e.g. the Dalits. The rule of Shiva ji, the champion of ‘Hindvi’ swaraj (rule of Hindus) and ‘Peshvai’ rule is a matter of great pride for Hindus by and large, but Dalits who have a recollection of their past would argue that the peshvai rule was of great torcher to them and they would prefer ‘now’ to the peshvai rule. We may argue for or against it, but certain truths are better to be accepted and rectified.
Note:- Except for Mauryan empire when the people from backward and marginalised section of society were given adequate voice, no ancient kingdom has worked for the upliftment of Dalits. Few exceptions are Mauryan empire, Lord Buddha, Ashoka post his conversion to Buddhism and in recent past Chhatrapati Shahu ji Maharaj, this has been supported by Dr. Ambedkar as well.
Hindu, before being a religion, is a society. And we must accept that we have leaps and bounds to climb before we argue we are the best or we are threatened by another religion. As long as caste system is prevalent and as long as enough affirmative action is not worked upon effectively, it is foolish to talk about our religion as ‘one’ and ‘all encompassing’.
Those who talk about uniting Hindus against any other religion must first spell out their agenda, through words and actions, about different sets of people within Hinduism.
Now to Dr. Ambedkar… how should we remember him!
He was the first and one of the very few, if not the only, mainstream Indian politician to have a PhD in Economics from London School of Economics. Add to that his research on the ‘caste system’ in India. He was someone who could openly label “Mahatma Gandhi” as a Hindu leader (in my opinion, rightly so and is a matter of pride. But see who all are we today considering as Hindu leaders, what lows have we come to) and challenge Gandhi for an open debate.
So is Dr. Ambedkar the icon, on whose birth and death anniversary people have to face traffic jams in all major cities, particularly in Mumbai and Pune. The young and upwardly youth who smirk and have opinion about the ‘blue’ bandwagon about the needless show of strength and idiocity.
And, he is someone who ensured the better future of these youths and young India by laying down its foundation through a marvelous constitution.
Or, he is the author of a copy and paste constitution, which is devoid of Indian (Hindu) tradition and cultural influence as is alleged by RSS (the ruling ideology of today).
Or, Dr. Ambedkar is the icon whose picture you would find at many places, particularly in the home of people belonging to a particular caste, being worshipped and considered a ‘God’, even when Dr. Ambedkar was dead against God worship as such.
To me Dr. Ambedkar was the ultimate rebel. So learned that he gave us a terrific constitution for which we can’t thank him enough, and so puritarian in his thoughts that he can’t get mainstream political success.
He will always be an enigma to me and I would sincerely like more people to research on him and learn from him… the lessons of humanity and social progress.

On July 1, 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Digital India’ programme and just two weeks later on July 2015, India celebrated its first World Youth Skills Day. These two programmes face a daunting challenge to revolutionize the very fabric of Indian society by expanding its horizons both in outlook and approach. The events also saw the unveiling of the “National Skill Development Mission” in India, which targets to train over 40 Crore Indian people in developing, enhancing, and polishing their skills to ensure they are not left behind in this increasingly globalized world of cut throat competition, and most importantly, to provide the youths a much needed opportunity to earn their livelihood with respect and confidence. Only time will tell the outcome of these magnanimous programmes being run by the BJP. But in order to ensure that PM Modi’s vision turns into a living reality, one can’t afford to ignore the pressing needs of the hour, which is to provide the underprivileged Indian youths, who are far removed from the digital world, an opportunity to get acquainted with the basic skills of using Internet. The bigger and larger dream can only be attained if we take one step at a time, and it is here that Vinod Sonkar, the sitting MP from Kaushambhi, needs to be whole heartedly congratulated for his far-fetched vision and also for battling it out all alone against the adamant authorities of the University of Allahabad, and forcing them to follow the MHRD Ministry’s instructions to conduct offline entrance test.
Vinod Sonkar is a politician who not only understands youths’ demands, but also supports their good cause. He is a hyperactive politician. It was Sonkar along with Keshav Prasad Maurya, who had played active role in showing the former VC of AU, the exit gate. Vinod Sonkar has struck again this time. The MP is completely correct in supporting the students’ cause because most of the students appearing in the online entrance test come from rural background where even the basic amenities like roads and electricity do not exist, forget about learning internet. The University witnessed much hullaballoo during the last few weeks over this soaring issue, but congratulations to Vinod Sonkar for taking this matter head on and winning the agitated students’ trust. Let the youth be given a chance to acquire some basic skills of the digital world. Probably, the Kaushambhi MP, Vinod Sonkar is cognizant of the fact that Rome was not built in a day, in the same way, we can’t digitalize such a big country like India in seven-eight months. Allow the Central Government to work on these schemes for a longer period of time, and positive results will ensue.

Dear Prime Minister Modiji,
There is very little chance that this appeal of an ordinary citizen, a very ordinary indeed, will reach you. There is even less chance of you getting time to read this appeal and absolutely no chance of its making any impact. Nevertheless, as a senior citizen, as one who expects you to do what no other Prime Minister could do in India, I consider it my duty to convey to you what I think is in the interest of the country and in your own interest.

B.B. LAL, ARCHEOLOGIST’S EVIDENCES ON RAMA’S TEMPLE BELOW BABARI MUSJID
REVIEW of the book:
Rama, His Historicity, Mandir and Setu: Evidence of Literature, Archaeology and Other Stories by
Review by M.A.Padmanabha Rao, PhD (AIIMS), who did extensive research on Valmiki’s Ramayana.
Two noteworthy contributions by the author, B.B. Lal has made this book on Rama an invaluable one.
1. He concluded that “Ramayana was not a figment of the imagination of the poet, but was based on a true story carried down over centuries by word of mouth”-page 50.
2 a. He has provided archeological evidences pinpointing that a Hindu temple existed prior to Babari Masjid at Ayodhya. Figures 2.3 and 2.4 illustrate two pillars of Hindu temple re-fixed against pier of the Babari Masjid.
2 b. Fig.2.5 illustrates 1.10 X 0.56 metre stone slab carrying a 20 line long inscription. Written in characters of the 12th CE, it gives all the details regarding the construction of the temple (page 62).
2 c. Figure 2.6 another inscription on a pillar recovered from within the wall of the Babari Masjid (page 63).
MY CONCLUSIONS from excerpts from page 64: The inscription makes it abundantly clear that there did exist at the site a temple datable to circa 11th-12th century CE. The sculptures and inscribed slab that came out from within the walls of the Masjid belonged to this very temple.

It came down to the final over bowled by Hardik Pandya as Bangladesh required 11 to win and 10 to take the match in the super over. Mahmudullah got a single off the first ball and Mushfiqur then smashed two 4’s in two balls to bring the equation down to a simple 2 off 3 balls for Bangladesh.
So many occupants of the Indian Parliament have serious criminal charges against them.
The spirit of the Indian Parliament has long been killed by the goons occupying it. A few good men & women but sit sentinels; to whom, the majority of masses do still listen.
This instance of the most revolting brutalisation of an innocent, hapless and defenceless animal by an elected representative of people in full public view in the presence of policemen in such shocking and savage manner is absolutely without any defence, mitigation or lessening and has to be treated so in damning and condemning it to the utmost extent possible.
Recently we learnt about a new expert on the Indian Constitution. The new expert, known as “Naqeeb-e-Millat, (“Leader of the community”), has given his interpretation after discovering what it does not say.
When the going gets tough, wisdom lies in moving away from the site and, if necessary, also from the sight.
Women have traditionally been taught that they should “be seen but not heard”. We are a society that places a high premium on silencing women, of consigning them to the margins and deleting them from history. The traditional invisibility of women’s distinct, individual voices is what Virginia Woolf referred to when she said, probably with a raised eyebrow and a half-grin, that “for most of history, Anonymous was a woman.”
BRILLIANT SPEECH MR. ANUPAM KHER
The Congress/Left propaganda machine which runs on the fuel of lies, innuendo, suggestions and half-truths to malign their opponent -in-chief, Narendra modi, has discovered a shiny new nut in Kanhaiya. The political opposition were handed out a pasting as never before in the hustings and have been clutching at straws to discredit the BJP and Modi in particular ever since. If Akhlaq is killed-Modi did it, if Manhaiya commits suicide, Modi did it, if 2016 is a leap year-maybe Modi did that too.
The Left has been confined to the dustbins of global history long back but the stink still pervades here in Hindustan. However, the proppping of kanhaiya was well demonished-not by a political heavyweight- but by a film star Anupam Kher. Kher’s video has gone viral while many other distinguished speakers also spoke their piece. This is because the truth carries so much weight that the conviction of the speaker is good enough to demolish opponents of far greater oratory skills and craft as we saw.
It is a sad time when politicians flock to feed on the carcass of a putrid opportunity even if it is served on a platter of anti-india and even terrorist bread. No one noticed that when the soldier Hanumanthappa who froze in Siachen and was dying in a hospital our PM no less, found time to visit him leaving all else behind before he finally lost his battle with death. However, the likes of Barkha Dutt and other channels scarcely found time to cover the story and applaud the gesture with half of the enthusiasm with which they relish issues aimed to defame Modi. However, when Kanhaiya, chastened from a hammering outside court and some pretty strict finger wagging from the judge who granted bail, spoke some sanitized crap the channels flocked to get his wise words.
Anupam Kher has spoken the mind of right thinking, balanced and logical Indians and articulated the collective sentiment with rare aplomb. That is why Barkha bhi chhane ki koshish mein mooh ke bl giri. His take on Rahul was a bit too sharp though. If he were a politician, it would not be acceptable but since he isn’t, his opinion passes muster to my mind.
All this talk about nationalism, patriotism et cetera. Wonder how many of them, so talking, genuinely care about the country. For if all these talking genuinely cared; the Tiger – a matter of pride and glory for India – would not have been as vulnerable to poaching and loss of habitat as they increasingly are.
The present write-up attempts to capture the increasing trauma and agony that loss of habitat and deadly poaching is fetching for our national animal; the most majestic of them all, the King, the Tiger.
Poverty has to be eliminated. Whether it be through the government or through charity. If one really cares about the nation, the society; one has to contribute, first of all, to elimination of poverty.
This composition, based on a real life tragedy, gravitates on laying bare the untold misery that being poor means.
When the heart is filled with courage and the mind reflects will as strong as a rock, then physical challenges seem trifling. As it happened in the case of these five women, who defied their physicality to triumph over their life and career. Today, theirs is a tale to be told to inspire millions!
Gender and Identity Politics: Beyond Normative Heterosexuality
Any analysis into the world of gender should be of universal interest. After all in the opinion of many, one of the most crucial information about any individual is, whether the individual is born a man or a woman, and there on should acquire traits of masculinity and femininity. Is then not that according to many gender should be perceived as something inevitably built by culture acting upon male and female bodies. In short, we often signify with gender as culturally constructed maleness and femaleness. There is no denying the fact that such an understanding is radical enough as it implicitly reflects the feminist imagination on gender which questions that biology is destiny. However, then are not such views and imaginations too totalizing? After all they typify the entire humanity with two culturally intelligible categories male and female ignoring or undermining all that seems not to fit within the frame of dominant culture.
The article 377 of the Indian constitution is provocative enough posing a challenge to such dominant conceptions. Focusing on certain inclusions it provides a basis to rethink regarding the efficacy of categories like gender and sex and takes us to the realm of post-modern feminism and queer politics. Post-modern feminism calls for a deconstruction and decontextualization of categorises as sex, gender, body, man and woman, so as to realize their exclusionary limits. It carries the idea that gender should not be seen within the framework of binary categories of male and female, but it should be seen as it comes to be intersected and articulated by several modalities and vectors of power like sexuality, race and class etc. It thus, disavows distinction that the main-stream feminists make between sex and gender basing it on nature-culture dichotomy reflecting it as heterosexist and hence, reductive. Instead, it points out that the category of sex is as cultural as the category of gender. The juxtaposition of sex with nature tantamounts to its political use and purely serves the purpose of reproductive sexuality.
And, should it not be that a pervasive heterosexual assumption in the literary theory as well in our daily lives that make presumptions about the limits and proprietary of gender and restrict its meaning to received notions of masculinity and femininity be questioned. As how is that certain kinds of gendered expressions are considered to be false or derivative and others true or original? For homosexuality and categories as gays and lesbians are as natural or social as sex and gender. The need is to come out of the defined and normative understanding of gender. For the markers of gender as Judith Butler, one of the famous feminist theorist puts it are independent of biological body. The “drag-shows” she points sufficiently dispute heterosexuality’s claims to naturalness and originality as these create a unified picture of “women” coming out of men’s body.
The relationship between homosexuality and heterosexuality is a relationship that has a long history of being ignored and mishandled. However, whether we accept it or not homosexuality has been a part of the human scene since time immemorial. It is true to Indian culture as any western counterpart. The Mahabharata one of the foremost Hindu epic, reflects the warrior Prince Arjun taking recourse to a homosexual identity, and being called as ‘Brahanlala’ to hide his true identity. Then, why do we see homosexuality as a western import, a threat to Indian civilisation and Indianness? More so, if homosexuals where so despicable then why would have Prince Arjun taken a persona of being one to hide his true self. Then, again why protest against the article 377 as it offers a corrective to heterosexism that bedevils many feminist writings and popular perceptions on gender. The article opens up the field of possibilities for gender without dictating which kinds of possibilities ought to be realised. There is no single gendered way of life that it sets as a model. A secular nation respects and treats all alike allowing all to practice freely there will, unless it harms or threatens the interests of nation at large. So, what harm could it cause if homosexuals choose to forge families of their own? After all they are creations of humanity and equally feel sorrows and pains of life and require companionship and support in times of hardships and old age. More so, the homosexual unions and kinship anterior to biological parentage give primacy to the notion of adoption. Isn’t then homosexuality spelling out something noble? Then why do we regard it as something immoral?

With the egregious rise in the number of farmer deaths in Vidarbha, Maharashtra, the growing number of farm widows has also escalated. When a crisis-hit farmer kills himself, what happens to the family he leaves behind? His widow is further pushed into the debt trap and multiplies her struggle to make ends meet. After a farmer commits suicide, his family needs to fill up a 40 page questionnaire which validates his existence as a ‘legitimate farmer’. In most of the conditions, the government does not pay any money to the family if the suicide was committed out of depression and not loan-debt problem. In the cases that it does pay, Rs 30, 000 is directly paid to the farmer’s widow while Rs 70,000 is preserved in the form of a FD, so that the money cannot be looted by the hungry money-lenders.

Beggist mistake Modiji committed that he was able manage deprive congress stutas of opposition. In democracy with parliamentary form government opposition as important as ruling party. Had he recognised UPA as opposition party many of problems we face today would not have arised. Let him learn to respect opposition party and do not dream that he would make congress Mukt, because congress which ruled for more than sixty years can not be wiped out in five years time. Let Modji respect opposition which is UPA and he may turn out be one of the out standing Prime minister like Jawharlal Nehru

When de facto President is more important than de jure President
The objectionable and provocative slogans shouted during a course of rally on the JNU campus Is deeply condemned. But while everyone is busy blaming JNU of harboring anti-national agendas, the so called nationalists are using the word ‘nationalism’ to wrap the disgraceful acts of violence and rage. The lawyers call themselves nationalists and patriot while they beat everyone they feel are antinational. JNUSU leader Kanhaiya Kumar, despite the instructions from the SC to ensure his safety, was thrashed, and abused in front of Delhi’s Patiala House court. Journalists and students were also beaten up for a reason unclear. These acts of so called nationalism, but in fact hooliganism has not only dishonored their oath but has made India hang its head in shame in front of the whole world. And while Delhi is being turned into a war zone of the so called national and antinational, no one really noticing that it is actually violent patriots who are violating and mocking the Indian constitution and not the silent protesters of JNU student community!
If the lawyers – the ‘officers of law’ had had so much of the grudges on the JNUSU leader kanhaiya kumar, then why not, being the pallbearers of justice, bring about justice by proving him guilty and by following the procedures of Indian penal code of justice. Don’t they have enough proofs? Or are they themselves nonbeliever of penal code? These acts of violence shows their impotency to bring about justice, as they try establish Indian constitution as a poster you spit your tobacco upon.
The clear cut distinction between nationalism and violence is deliberately being decayed into one shameful act of violence and chaos by political and radical leaders like OP Sharma and Sakshi Maharaj, who say traitors deserve to be hanged or shot, giving a verdict of their own before the court session has even started. Why go to court! Let’s hang a big placard on the courts doors saying “out for justice”, and kill everyone you feel like! It seems that some leaders have forgot that this is not Taliban, but India. And their agenda of violence is initiating great deal of public unrest all over the nation. And those who are following these agendas, and who think they can only become patriots by abusing and beating and kicking anti-nationals should rather march over to the POK and show their anger on the border fields, and not show your guts by beating journalists and students. Proud to be an Indian? Trying being human first, because it’s the land of great peoples and not hoodlums.
I disapprove anti nationalism, but I also disapprove violence on the name of nationalism. To the lawyers, I plead, to maintain the decorum of your job, and dignity of the country. Don’t make us feel shame. Please don’t.
Why Women Manage Household Finances Better than Men?
By A/Professor Nattavud Pimpa
Financial management in the household is related to gender issues.
As a principle investigator of a research project on mining and equitable employment by women in two Mekong countries (Lao PDR and Thailand), I spent months in both countries and had learnt various aspects of women and financial management issues.
Although the project aims to investigate consequences of international mining industry on gender, we learn various interesting issues on how women in both countries manage their household finances.
In general, women may not earn as much as men in extractive industry, due to physical and mental limitations from the industry and/or themselves. However, we learn that men from both countries tend to allow their wives to manage the household finances. The interviews with 75 Lao men and women and 54 Thais show some following interesting points:
1) – Women comprehend financial focus better than men: Most women whom we interviewed can easily convey their financial ideas. Most of them are clear about short and long terms expenditures. They always plan for expenditures on food, health and well-being, and education for kids. They know how and what to prioritize when it comes to finance for family.
2) – Women network better than men: I do not generalize this point to the entire population. In the rural communities in Laos and Thailand where we located this research project, we learn that women understand the nature of their community and can connect with other men and women better than their male counterparts. Most networks started informally and subsequently transformed into entrepreneurial culture. In Laos, for example, the focus on food supply chain for the mining corporations and community is a great example of how women can earn extra incomes and become community leaders by networking among each others.
3) – Women’s approaches in finance are different from men: When we examine several microfinance ideas and actions in both communities, we realize that women tend to focus on long-term strategies than their male family members. Almost all women from this study tend to focus on income generation activities that can involve all family and community members, whilst men tend to focus on individual or self-development. For instance, in Thailand, men prefer to spend money on their own farm, land development, and entertainment (including alcohol and gambling), women prefer to spend money on investment for family, group education and training, and food for the family.
4) –Bread wining women involve directly in most family decision-making: Along with earning more, women are also taking control of their family’s finances. They focus on paying bills, voice their opinion on purchasing decision making for family. It is true that women who out-earn their husbands are more likely to involve in all aspects of family decision-making such as education for kids, investment, saving, and purchasing of land or car. The joint decision-making process among men and women can lead to optimal results among family members.
The major obstacles in involving women in the family financial decision making in the mining community include traditional male-dominated ideology in the community, stigmatization of women as passive and incompetent, and myths about women’s ability to manage resources. These points lead to the conclusion that it is important to include women in the management of household finances.
The joint decisions about managing personal finance is to ensure that both men and women take a personal responsibility at every stage of money management and that communication is key to successful planning now and the future.

Witch hunting arising out of the recent JNU incident is capable of opening up a pandora’s box; entangling the present central government in unnecessary controversy and wasting its energy. India is big enough and with roots deep enough to take such incidents in its stride and to focus on the most pressing goals of all round peace, prosperity and development.

Parliamentary system of democracy subverted in India
Visit http://NarainD.blogspot.com to read full article.
During debates in the Constituent Assembly on the system of government the country would adopt, the chief architects of the Constitution made it abundantly clear that though the term ‘parliamentary democracy’ was not mentioned in the Constitution, they were adopting the British parliamentary system of democracy (also known as the Westminster model) and expected that healthy conventions that developed in Britain to ensure the smooth functioning of the unwritten constitution there would also develop in India to take care of what was not put in black and white.
Despite the best intentions of the chief architects of our Constitution, our political leaders including those who were members of the Constituent Assembly decided to Indianise the British model. Over the years our parliamentary democracy has developed its unique features which are unthinkable in Britain and the founding fathers of our constitutional could not have imagined even in their wildest dream.

Nationalists are persons who by virtue of the sincerity of the feeling they have for humanity at large are able to turn their activities to the betterment of their more familiar and near surroundings that their nation represents, including its defence against any destructive or harmful threat; but, in the same breath, are also able to connect with a warm heart with the global humanity at large.
Nationalism & internationalism – far from having any mutual contradictions – strongly merge and flow into each other.
